Don't forget to post details about your car! Maybe a link to your question on turbobricks?

I'm not far from Brentwood, but we should be able to help you out over the forum...

More details would be great, if you want someone to pop by and look at it, call me 589 6819. I'm not as good as the other guys on the board, but I know a thing or two :)

wow, good to see some responces,

i got the car with the problem, its kind of hard to describe other than it sounds like the timing is off by alot, its like chugga chugga chugga.... etc with like no power. its got alot of kms, but what 240 dosent? the distributor marks were off and once i lined that all up again it dosent even start, i can get it to crank but as soon as it fires it just stops dead, so im wondering if the crank needs to be rotated another 180 degrees... im no mechanic tho, and its interference so if i screw that up ill screw up the valves etc... basically im tired of messing with it and want to be able to drive it, $120 every 4 days in my truck just dosent make sence anymore.

hope that helps...

Hmm, from the picture on tbricks, it looks like you should be ok. Yes, the distributor mark is off, but that's because your distributor *should* be advanced, 12 degrees, which is about what that shows. Assuming it's advanced (and not retarded) then your problem might not be timing.

Crank at TDC (mark on the pulley lines up with "0" on the timing cover), mark on cam gear lined up with mark on valve cover, pull the distributor cap and the rotor should be pointed roughly at #1 spark plug wire. Rotate the crank until the crank pulley mark is at 12 degrees and the rotor should be pointing right at the #1 spot on the cap.

Sorry, can't help with the harmonic balancer as I'm not familiar with it (I think my 940 has one, but so far I haven't had to deal with it, touch wood!)

the balancer is fine, and ive checked this, rubber looks worn but solid, i dont really understand how the rotor is PAST the #1 wire on the distro when its all lined up, turning it back is what lines it up, turning the crank to 12 degrees would make it point at the #3 plug... this is kind of why i need help, cause describing it back and forth just kind of confuzes everybody.

wait, so your saying to line up the distro at number 1, then advance the crank past tdc?

The ignition timing is advanced by turning the distributor, 12 degrees is the stock setting. So what athal is saying is turn your crank so that the mark on the crankshaft is at 0 on the timing cover, then the cam should be pointed at its timing mark (straight up) and when you pull the distributor cap off then the rotor will be pointed 12 degrees off of #1 cylinder on the cap. If that all lines up then you turn the crank back to where 12 degrees would be on the timing cover and the rotor will now (or should be dead on where #1 cylinder is on the cap).

If its running well enough for you to drive it to my house when you get your stuff then I can check it for you too.

hey all,

so it worked for something, it runs like a tractor again, the motor chugs just like before, so your suspicion was right and its not a timing problem i guess. now im completely lost, looks like im going to have you come over after all raz.

if it helps i could always take a video.
