The topic of synthetic oils came up briefly on another thread which prompted me to do some digging on UFA's Super Polar Plus synthetic oil. It is rebranded Esso xd-3 which i found is a PAO fully synthetic oil in the 0W30 and 0W40 grades. Pour point for the 0W30 is -45C. I am posting this for info purposes only as I currently use this oil and wanted to learn more for myself. It's also reasonably priced ~$23 for a 5 liter jug (at UFA of course).

YMMV

I need oil, where's the nearest UFA for Calgary folk?!?!? Do you need to be a member, or a farmer or anything? Beats the pants off ~$45/jug for mobile 1...

Last jugs of Mobil 1 5w30 I bought were about $12... but there was a small pricing error! "START THE CAR!!!"

Story: Canadian Tire had a sale on recently, for $32 you could get a 4.4 litre jug plus a 1 litre bottle, bundled up. This represented about a $10 savings from Wal-Mart, where I usually bought it. Dale and I went, where I grabbed a box (containing three of these bundles) and Dale grabbed a single, so we'd have two each. We went to the self-serve checkout, and when he scanned his it came up at $32, and when I scanned my box of three it came up at... $32.

When we got out to the car, I took off my jacket & he took off his jacket & ball cap (incogneto FTW), and we went back inside. We each grabbed a case of three and went back to the self-serve. He swiped his, I swiped mine, and both machines started flashing red lights, requiring the attendant. The silly bunt came by and reset both our machines without looking at what we'd bought or how much we'd been charged, so we processed the VISAs, picked up our boxes, and skedaddled.

10 oil changes for $128 plus tax. Nice.

Nice! Thanks for looking into this. I'll be using this stuff for the Smurf once she's running.
