Hey Guys,

Greg sent me the following picture...

Image

Where do I find those smaller square headlights? I've got access to a flathood at the JY, the grill is no problem, but where to get the headlights?

Craig

P.S. Who predicted that this would get out of control...Matt - take a bow buddy.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAHAHA!!!

We never got those lights over here. I know Athal had a set, but I'm not sure where he got 'em...probably one of the UK dudes?

Double meaning 2? What? I've scoured e-bay UK/Australia/Germany and found nothing. I'll have to keep my eyes peeled on TBrix.

Athal had a set until he decided to rearrange the rear end of a Wabbit with them...

They can be found but you would probably have more luck to contact one of the Euro guys directly and ask him to keep an eye out. The problem with the Brit and Aussie stuff is they are designed to focus on the wrong side of the road...

Like Dale says, they're almost all LHT, so are completely irresponsible for those of us who drive on the left. In a summer car, not too bad because you never have the lights on. In a winter car? Naughty naughty.

Besides, they're a million bucks and hard to find in decent shape. Not that this will stop you, but hopefully your responsibility to oncoming traffic will make you reconsider.

Try fabbing something up using the big rectangle lights, as seen on a Chevette. You can get them from Hella and Cibie and stuff for an H4 bulb in E-code pattern. They won't be slightly slanted back like that, but you'll get 90% of the look with 200% of the performance.

I was thinking about two fab options. One that you mention would be to find something with squares that would fit. The other would be to modify the existing single round set up by fabricating new buckets and getting them chrome plated and then installing a Lexan cover - same look, more easily achieved.

Thoughts?

Or you could just do the single round 7" lights like what's on your 122, and live with it.

Says he, who just pulled some projector low beams and projector fog lights from the JY, "just in case".

That's my vote. Keep it stock, but good looking. And we've got the parts already. The fabricated stuff would be cool, but this is your "beater", remember?

OK - off to the JY on Saturday for a flathood...all in favour say aye.

Is this my first intervention? If so thanks.

Edit - what's wrong with the TV screens that you can still buy new?

Nothing wrong with that headlight (well the e-code version anyway) - but with the flat hood the body lines don't line up and I've been thinking about the flat hood. I know this is what Dale was going to do with the car and I wasn't going to do it, but it just looks more sporty to my eye. Although the formal hood on Greg's car with the quad rounds looks perfect, but I think that's mostly because all the chrome is gone and the quad rounds are sexy.

Well you can get an Australian grille for about $50 to match those headlights to the flathood, but IMHO I didn't like that look much when I tried it on that car. It might have been partly because my flathood was black, or because my car isn't a 2 door and I figure 4 doors of that vintage have to have the formal hood, or something.

Edit - the only option for that headlight is the E-code version. The H4 version is preferrable, and is the only one available from the dealer.
