Couldn't resist giving it a good home. Just under 200,000km, '89 auto, no options. It'll make a great chassis for my go fast stuff, or a perfect replacement for the my dads old '81 that needs just as much work and is due for retirement.

Looks good! =D> Is this the car from Okotoks that was on kijiji recently? Sounded like a decent deal if it's the same one.

Ok, now I'm confused...is this the car that will get the bling or are you giving this car to your Dad.

Yes Jim, it was "the deal".

Craig, not sure of the plan yet. Still have to pick it up, get it home (likely to my dads for now) and give it the once over. We'll see what it needs and how much work I feel like doing right now.

man this is the best car i've bought for cheap! needs shocks, some steering work, drivers seat, exhaust, motor and tranny mounts, and we'll see what else, but MAN are the later 240s so quiet! even with the back muffler missing its quieter than the 940 (with aftermarket exhaust and noisy tires). pretty smooth on the highway too, i'm impressed.
THis makes up for all the crappy parts cars I've paid way too much for in the past. Even makes a joke of the 242 which I paid 50% more for.
I think I'll get it fixed up and let dad drive it for now while I take the 242 apart.

did you want a full NA 240 exhaust in decent condition before i junk it? it has no rust holes in it, so its nice and quiet still.

let me know.

I've bought cars for 200 dollars that needed way less work :) You must buy expensive crappy cars d00d.

All jokes aside, I'm glad you're psyched, and congrats on the car :)

I loved my 92 245GL with an M47. It was a great car, had enough gadgets for me, and was very quiet for a 240.

Late 240s are everything a 7/9 ever can be and more. Better handling, less hideous (it is still a brick volvo), simple and mostly reliable. They never did figure out the tailgate hinges or blower motor on a 240 and they did get a little complicated by 93, but thats about it. 91-93 240s are awesome. I saw a black 93 in the yard that I wished I had known about before it hit the yard (overheat). Still, got the tailgate for my black 83 245tic. If I could find a black 93 M47 car for under 5 grand I'd probably sell everything else and buy it. It'd have to be original paint, california bay area ideally garaged car with no roof rack. I'm not picky at all, am I? I am amazed by how quiet they are when they are low mile...I drove a 92 244GL with 40K on it and was amazed by the almost benz like silence. It also ran better at 15 years of age than a brand new ford-vo.

Actually, if I had stupid money I wish I could buy all the factory tooling and a small factory and build a brand new black 93 245 with early cowl, turbo k-jet and group-A style front...and of course a real group-A car. Back to reality...

Looks like you got lucky and got a wagon with black checker cloth interior. Awesome!

Sedan it is! 244s are awesomely durable, if not exactly as awesomely utilitarian as a 245.

For a DD, I like 83 DLs and 86-88s the best. 83 DLs are my favorite though. No A/C, 5-panel tails, skinny bumpers, EFI B23, no trim under the windows, no sunroof option, basic DL inside, early cowl, no metallic paint (and no black :() . I am starting to warm up to electric windows tho, so that puts the 89-93+ 245s more in my eye. That, and the late ones really are better.

Part of why I love my cop car so much is that it is a stripper 83 244DL+Turbo....and just freaking cool and weird. I just wish they made an '83 242T police car. That would be my perfect combo with some NOS white late fenders (no trim holes or undercoating) and front (group-A/euro style). The cop car is creepily quiet, but shouldn't be being an early DL. I finally figured it out: thick rubber floor instead of carpet. I wish they all came with a rubber floor you can hose out lol. I have a part # on it, but am scared to ask volvo what that and a set of black winter tray mats that are still nice and soft is going to cost new.
