Hey everyone...

Just wondering if anyone has a "best place" or even idea of where I can start looking for a replacement for my passenger window which was smashed when it was broken into the other day. I had Glass Masters put in a piece for me which DOES NOT FIT... the snow is entering the car today... and of course they are telling me they can't find anything.

Is there a good place I can start looking for a used piece? Where are all the poor unfortunate C70's taken to rest?

You could try the Revolv store in Saskatoon (www.usedvolvoparts.ca) or Schramm's on the west coast (604) 599-6081 or Chapman Motors near Nanaimo. One of those places should have what you need. Otherwise Volvord (Ian) has a C70. You could probably go over there and swap your leaky window for his good one while he's not looking...

Roj, you need to think outside of the box once in a while...

Try Swany here in town. They buy up all the newer salvage auction Volvos, don't they?

I don't deal with him on principle as he's a crook. Way back in the 80s when Mr. Volvo was just starting out (and Erv was a good guy to deal with) Swany was the head mechanic there. He started secretly working on people's cars at night stealing new and used parts and supplies from Erv's inventory. When the accountants discovered what was going on several months later, there were tens of thousands of dollars worth of parts unaccounted for. Damn near put Erv out of business. Erv went after him in court but wasn't able to get much back. To add insult to injury Swany used all the money he made stealing from Erv to start up his own business in direct competition from Erv. Lovely thing to do to someone who had given you a job and paid you a fair wage for several years. Talk about being a world class low-life pr*ck.

To this day I have not spent a dime at Swany's or Eurotech or whatever they call it now and I would ask others to boycott him as well.

Fair enough. Given my dealings with Erv at Mr Volvo, he's the most arrogant prick there is and I won't deal with him on principle. I know he doesn't have too many fans here either. I won't deal with the Revolve store in Saskatoon for the same reason I won't deal with Schramms in Vancouver. They buy up every wrecked and used Volvo they can find and set their own asking price for stuff. Thank Christ we don't have quite that monopoly here and can go to PYP and get the parts we need. Unfortunately PYP doesn't buy up the newer stuff, but Swany does...

The original poster was asking where she might get a window for her C70, not what our opinions of certain people were and why or why we wouldn't deal with them. So...to answer the OP's question, Swany might have what you need...

Try all the places mentioned, there is principal but also a need, I also avoid Swany's but have used them for some part I needed because they were available and save ME money and hassle.

The other option which I use all the time is Valentine, they have a very good supply and access to Volvo parts (surprise, surprise) and I am betting that this will be your best source, C70's are not that common in any wrecking yard and Valentine may be your only timely option.

I can't say I like dealing with Erv much now either but back in the day before they moved to their current location he was a pretty good and generous guy and used to give me real good deals on stuff.

I have had good experiences dealing with the Revolve store and Lorne has given me really good service and come through for me whenever I was in a pinch and have needed something fast.

That being said, Ian is right in saying it might be tough to get used parts for a C70 other than through a dealer.

I will try my friend Roy down in Oregon. He and John Murphy down there buy up a lot of wrecked Volvos and either part 'em out or restore and retitle them if they're not too far gone. It's a bit of a longshot but maybe one of them knows where to lay their hands on some used C70 parts. I'll report back with what I find out as soon as I can...

I checked with my friend Roy in Oregon. He told me about a Volvo wrecking yard in Rancho Cordova, CA. He said if anyone would have glass it would be them.

Here's their URL

http://www.vandsautodismantlers.com/

I checked on their website and they do have a number of smashed C70 coupes and convertibles in their yard. Don't know if they would be willing to sell the glass separately from the door. Maybe if they have one where the door is pranged but the glass is ok. You can see pics of their wrecked cars in inventory. I didn't see any C70s which had damage on that side but you should at least give them a call or write them to see if they might have what you're looking for and how much they want for it. Maybe you'll get lucky...

Good luck with it.

I just thought of one other place you could try. At the auto show I picked up a card from a guy who says he can get dealer only parts for most cars at a much lower price than the dealer. You might want to give him a call and see what he can do for you.

Guy's name is Martin Szabo. Fireblade Automotive Canada. 403-780-0615 or martin@firebladeautomotive.com.

You could also check out their website at www.firebladeautomotive.com

Let us know what happens with this. I'm interested to see where you were able to find the part you want and what the quoted prices were.

That's a typical World-Pac retailer. I'm pretty sure that even with shipping, the parts I bought for the 960 were cheaper from FCP Groton.

Just compared. Fireblade rear rotors for a '92 960...Brembo... $51.09 each

FCP Groton...$28 each...

Ouch...

I second this, the boys at Screamin did my scoop and splitters, they do awesome work at a fair price. =D>
