how similar is a 940 dash and a 740 dash?
if i were to order a dash dress-up kit for a '93 940 would it fit my 87 740?

Not 100% sure but I would guess NO it will not fit.
The 940 instument cluster is different than the 740; 6 gauges in the 740 with a rectangular pod, 4 gauges on the 940 with a angular top to the pod.
But maybe one of the Volvo techs will know for sure.

I would have to agree with Ian. Also, didn't James post something to this thread? I am sure he did and if so it's another case of a disappearing post...

ya what the eff, james had a great post!

Raz, any reason posts might be disappearing as I don't think anyone is deleting them intentionally?

i put a wood trim kit in my 940. I'm pretty sure the 740s are different, and changed over the years too. Do some searching for trim kits and see if any models share dash designs.

I looked at some cars for sale online and I would close but no cigar. I think the trim piece around the headlight switch etc. would work. The one around the ignition and heater controls is close, but on the 740 has a bar separating the fan switch from the sliders whereas the 940 has three dials all in the same area no bar. Below the heater and around the radio, ashtray etc. looks the same as well so could work. Having said that I am just going from for sale photos online, why not hook up with Athal, or someone with a live 940, and compare side by side before you order??

I'm not entirely sure why stuff is disappearing, or that it is. I have done a few resynchronizations, im hoping maybe that has solved it.
