so i've been thinking about changing my air intake for a while now. Now i finally did it. It was defiantly worth it. The performance is a little better on the low end but on the higher up in the RPM's it defiantly pulls better. on the test run i took this afternoon i went out to Cochrane and pulled out to pass a truck and i was defiantly surprised by the extra pull. the true test will be in time though we'll see if it actually gets better fuel economy like i was told. anyway enough of the blah blah blah hers the pics

Now buy one of those heat shields off T-Bricks so it's not sucking hot air...

And it's D-E-F-I-N-I-T-E-L-Y [-o<

But he spelled "defiantly" right. How do you know that's not what Doug meant?

he has defiantly installed a cone filter.

Dale. I'm not sure the hot air is an issue in calgary for the next 7 months, and that filter is really far from anything even remotely toasty in his engine bay, I say; don't worry about the shield.

Agreed Raz...

I guess my point was that people would call that a cold air intake and it really isn't, particularly in the summer...

So the big question is, is it actually better than just replacing a worn out cruddy no-name air filter with a new stock volvo/mann or mahle? I usually just chuck the stock airbox t-stat and duct it a little nicer. Tho, on a winter beater I'd probably keep the pre-heat crap on a k-jet car with no air mass to fry.

eventually i will be ducting it better, silicone maybe? im definitely going to stay away from doing any kind of rice rocket chrome or aluminum stuff because when that heats up it defeats the purpose of a cold air intake. for now though im trying to find a good heat shield and run a preheat hose into it for the winter.

and thanks for the spelling lesson everyone...

so after about 4 days with the intake i had to remove it...

The car started to run very very very very rich!!! it was to the point where even driving up crowchid doin a buck ten with the windows down and the sunroof back wasn't enough to keep my self from getting gassed out. The exhaust was coming out black and the car was studdering all the way up crowchild and at one point i wasnt sure if i would make it home. it had been getting progressivly worse since sunday but today was the absolute worst. when i got home i removed the cone filter and replace it with the stock airbox.

any ideas?

Did your car start to run better with the stock airbox?

Did you support the AMM in any way with the cone filter?

I had troubles with the connector to my AMM - every once in a while it would start to run really rough and I would have to pop the hood and jiggle the connector. If you didn't support the AMM and it's still running poorly with the stock airbox, you may have damaged one of the really delicate thin wires due to the AMM bouncing around, and now you need a replacement.

i did create a bracket for the filter and stuff. it was actually supported in two places. and yes as soon as i installed the stock air box the car ran WAY better! so I am more than confused!!

Sounds like there was some strain on the AMM with the cone which strained the wires. Now it's realigned properly (not saying you didn't support it well with the cone) with the stock airbox which explains the better running?

Well I'm not really sure what I did wrong but I'm thinking im just going to cut holes in the air box and maybe do some kind of ghetto ram-air mod...
