im thinking that this would be a great starting point for a project.
http://calgary.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle ... Z178869070

plans for the body would include redoing the interior, paint off white cream, a greenish yellow (pic below) or a navy blue (pic below) and bullitt rims black or chrome depending on body color.

engine would either be rebuilt or possible Chev 350...? Ford 302...?

Good price. Was looking at that earlier. It's a 4-door which will retract slightly from the "cool" factor. The rust doesn't seem to be that bad but could be hidden under layers of who knows what. I don't believe that is an original 122 color so unless I'm wrong, it's been repainted at least once. They can be money pits. Ask Craig, who has done one, how much he thinks he's spent to get his car to this point. Then again, most cars can drain you pretty dry. Just be aware...a car like the Vox car (the grey 2-door wagon) likely has close to $100,000 invested in parts and labor. Even if you did all the work yourself, the parts add up very quickly and you could find yourself spending $20,000, probably more, just on parts to put a car like that together. I suspect it is quite a bit less expensive to do a proper restoration on a car like that than doing a resto-mod like the Vox car. Not trying to discourage you. I think it's cool you are looking at a 122 as a long-term project. You just need to know what you're getting into.

oh man ya that Vox car is ridiculous!! i probably wouldn't go that far with this car, i just like the color. My thought was to get it lookin good, runnin well and comfortable then just keep it road worthy 'till it literally falls apart, just isnt worth it anymore or i can afford doing a full "Craig" level restoration on it.

How about this one viewtopic.php?f=5&t=1897, listed in or very own FS section. The price is allot higher but it's drivable which is worth something as Dale alluded to in how costs can add up. That and you can drive and restore as you go.

There's also this one in the Chuck for less than the above and appears to be a driver as well.

Oh, and these are both 2 doors, I have seen some 4 doors that looked pretty sharp all done up but you can't beat the 2 door for coolness.

Frig, this thing just keeps crashing. I'm not saying don't do it Doug, but just be sensible about it right off the bat. I don't usually total up bills, that isn't the point, doing it the right way is the point. Colour, what ever you like, but it looks like it was originally red, so the brown is covering something. I'd check it out, and 2 vs 4 doors isn't that big a deal. 302 may fit, 350 wont. Volvo power is easier and remember, the complexity of the modification controls the likelyhood of completion in an inverse relationship.

 awesome!!

so i know that a 122 and a 780 are huge fields apart but would Matt's 780 be a better place to look for a project car?

Matt's 780 isn't much of a project car. That's not a bad thing though. Sure, you could tinker and mess around but you could also drive it as is and be driving a pretty cool car. It needs some stuff done and I'm pretty sure Matt laid that out in his post about it. You could certainly turn it into a project car by putting a different engine in it...

That's just sacrilege. This is a refined automobile. If you put a V8 in it, it had better be of the Lexus, Infinity or Northstar variety... [-X

All cool engines and would look awesome
...but looking at the engine weight (which I know is not everything but a very important factor):
- Lexus V8 470 lbs
- Infinity V8 510-550 lbs
- Northstar 465 lbs
- Chev 350 w/ Aluminum intake 535 lbs
- Ford 4.6 DOHC 521 lbs
- Ford 5.0L 410 lbs (with aluminum intake & heads)

For reference, according to wikipedia...

PRV- 331lbs (seems low?)
can't find redblock, but apparently it's more than an aluminum 5.0

Hands up, who's got an awesome turbo redblock for sale that makes 200+ hp...I see Athal, and that kid in the back with the 780, Dupuis, Matthew. Hmmm, package deal?

Trust me, if I didn't have 4 cars and my heart set on a wagon...I'd be working on a 780 BMW killer. That thing is tooo sexy.
