Hi, me again.

I've got some time, but have been unable to find decent front brake calipers. Mine were seized/rusted, and I have made several trips out to John Paulson's for parts (I bought my wagon from him, so have free access to used parts). I've been through a DOZEN brake calipers and I still only have the passenger side, except for the large puck (three pistons, not four). I have rebuild kits. On the driver's side I have half a caliper (the two-piston side), and need the other. I'm using air to get them out, have been to a brake shop with the same result. I've split the calipers, but still can't free-up what I need. I think hydraulics could free-up seized pistons, but the pucks, if they are that stuck will be rusted. Anybody got a driver's side caliper and/or large pucks?

Olaf can get me new calipers for 180 dollars each, but, I'm wondering, maybe newer calipers might fit on???

Thanks, James/Jim/Jimbo

I'm pretty sure you won't find other Volvo calipers that bolt on although there is a Wilwood caliper that will bolt on as seen here...

Not positive that there is no caliper adapter bracket on there but the 122 does use a fairly common Wilwood caliper bolt spacing. I've got the two from my 122 but with a 123GT sitting waiting a restoration I'm a little hesitant to pass them on. Wait...there is a 4-piston caliper that bolts up? What's that from?

I've got a set that are fine and I've got a good set of front rotors as well. Let me know if you're interested.

Hi Craig/Dale,

Mmmmmm.... nice clean cross-member, Dale. (hey, my smiley-face doesn't work!) What was that final exclaimation about, Dale?

Yes Craig, that would be great! One less thing to worry-about. I have already had my rotors machined, however. How often are you in Calgary?

Not my crossmember but thanks... I was wondering about 4-piston calipers. You said you had found only one working 4-piston caliper? I wasn't aware there was a 4-piston caliper that bolted up to a 122. Maybe I'm confused with your wording...

I'll be in Lethbridge next weekend Jim. If you can Craig get the finances worked out, I can bring them back with me...

Hi Dale,

Too-bad, I thought you had done what I would like to do with my cross-member. Since it is not your's, I'll tell you I wouldn't have chosen that colour (smiley-face)....

No, I did not mean to imply 4-piston calipers on a 122, only that I know they are on other Volvos.

Craig, what do you want to do about a price, 50 bucks OK?

Jim

Yeah, it is hard to decide what colour to paint various underbody parts. I started with flat black, but that is boring.

Dale, I'll give you a call about picking-up those calipers. I'll be so glad to have that problem sorted-out.
