I'm looking for a solid B20. Any leads?
Thanks.

As is plug and play? I've got an intact B20E that needs attention. Ran fine but should be rebuilt. Dyno'd 87 hp at the wheels shortly before I pulled it out of my 122. Burned oil on decel and the oil pressure light would flash at idle. I've also got an intact B20B. I've heard it run but never driven it. Seemed to be pretty solid but should be tagged as unknown. Not sure why I need ANY B20 engines let alone 2 so I can't think of any reason I wouldn't part with one. The B20B would be the one I'd pick if I had to choose...

In other words they are around - I've got a B18D that is in the rebuild phase waiting for a reason for me to finish the engine. What are you up to?

Long story short. Remote oil filter, header burned lines. Volvo mechanic switched lines. Oil starved, heated main bearing and connecting rod caps which appear to have stretched (1 each out of spec.) the caps and conrod are an unhealthy deep blue, scorched bearings, scored crank. This engine had already been reworked, bored to 2.2, double valve springs, hot cam, upgraded seals, steel timing gears .010 undersize bearings. The head is suspect on #4 both valves carboned rather than having a brown exhaust valve as the others have, appears #3 was leaking coolant can't tell if head needed machining or assembly and torquing was suspect. Much is transferable (HIF6's, dual downpipe, timing gears etc). Rather than pump money into machining this block, crank and conrods. I am advised by someones whose judgement I trust starting with another engine may be cheaper and probably better in the long run. I would appreciate any thoughts and Dale I would be interested in talking to you about the B20B you have if you don't mind giving me your phone #.
Thanks. Bill

Sent you a PM...

Seems I've read this story. Did you post it on the Brickboard?

Yes. At different times. This has been one of those stories, like an onion, I keep peeling another layer. I'm down to replacing the engine so hope i'm near the centre. At times my learning curve has been steep and I haven't kept up. It is and has been a worthwhile, albeit somewhat expensive, education.

Those oil filter relocate kits are dangerous if you don't pay attention to whats going on. Thankfully I was warned by Matt and Dale to be aware of how the lines are arranged. Unfortunately this was after I switched them and killed my turbo, It didnt harm my engine thankfully. That was the Head gaskets fault....

I also wrapped my lines in a healthy amount of fiberglass cloth, tinfoil and hose clamps to prevent the lines from being burnt. Works like a charm.

Sorry to hear about your motor, thats a crappy way to kill one...
