Alrighty... So in my 740 I have a getrag from an M3. Works great, doesn't vibrate or anything. Just is REALLY noisy.

But now, 10K km later, my gears are grinding into 3rd and 4th, and my clutch is starting to slip. So the idea is to get a new getrag and a new clutch.

I took a look at Metric Mechanics Getrags, and I was like Wow those are nice. 3100 bucks for the Sport with the nice ratios is pretty steep, but I was sort of willing to take that on and not do any other mods the rest of the year.

Then I added in another 500 for a new clutch, 30 for the ring I need for the adapter and then how ever much for the machining to fit that ring. So it started to add up.

Low and behold I was looking at somthing and it got me thinking of a T5 swap. I looked at summit, 1200 for a brand spanking new Gearbox. Vperformance adapter for 250, plus 400 for a nice clutch. THis also leaves room for the aluminum flywheel at 425 bucks.

I can recoup some of my money from the Getrag swap. Someone out there has probably got a getrag sitting around they just need the already modified driveshaft, the shift linkage, the crossmember, and the adapter plate.

So, should I do it? If I do do this, I'll have to convert to MS and EDIS right away though, because I'll loose my pick up on the flywheel.

yay or nay?

For the cost of the MM transmission alone, you've got room for the entire T5 swap plus the MSnS-E, PLUS a few hours on the dyno dialing the thing in.

Seems like a no-brianer to me.

Jordan, there are many different configurations of the T5, they came with torque ratings from 175 ft/lbs to 330 ft/lbs and in both wide and close gear ratios. The best unit is the World class T5Z which offers 330 ft/lbs and close ratios 1 to 4 and a long 5th which gives the best of all worlds, fun spirited driving and a real economy 5th gear.

I do not think you will ever find a good T5 in the wreckers let alone a T5Z, most are thrashed. I bought My T5Z locally for about $1600 new. Here is some good reading

And it was a scratch and dent sale.

I really should apologize to Brian.

Good or bad????

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... AMEWA%3AIT

He is relativly close to me shipping won't be bad.

How important is the 7.41 vs 7.18" in this swap? I looked at muscle mustang or whatever website and the years between 88 and 91 are both, no consistancy. I looked at the Turbobricks Stickey and no mention there either.

Any Help?

Well I like the transmission, but it's a bit pricey. Not terrible, but not great. I got mine for $500 CAD, though I needed to toss another $250 at it for a rebuild. Mine came with a shifter and bellhousing, clutch, flywheel, crossmember, etc. - everything I needed to install it into my car. Obviously you don't need all that, but for $775 USD I'd hope it would come with a shifter at least.

No idea what you're talking about with those dimensions...

Dimensions are the Input shaft length. Is that small size even gonna matter?

I like how the box is already rebuilt and ready to go. I wish it did come with a Shifter atleast, but they are pretty cheap on E-bay.
I am having no luck finding a box here, or anywhere else for that matter.

It works out to 900Canadian dollars. A new one with out the modifications from Summit is 1149 or so.

Hmmm

I didn't see those dimensions anywhere in that auction, but maybe I missed it.

Typically the 4 cylinder cars have a really long input shaft for some reason, but they've also got a 4.something first gear. IIRC there was an input shaft length change in '94 when they went to the newer bodystyle, so maybe that's it? I can't remember if it got shorter or longer, though.

Either way, I don't know how to answer your question, except to suggest to contact Vperformance or whoever you're getting the bellhousing adaptation from to see which one it was designed for.

The WC T5Z comes with all those modifications as standard.
I personally really like the 2.95 first gear over the 3.35, but that somewhat depends on the rear axle ratio you are using.

I agree with Matt that I think you can get new for close to the same price locally.
