One hell of a bargain. Good find!

Not sure about the bargain part. While I haven't totaled it all up, I'm pretty sure I'm close to $6k. A good price for a great solid car with 22k. A 25 year-old Volvo may not be worth that much to anyone...regardless of condition.

I thought you were planning on replacing various cars in your fleet with this museum piece? Heck a new one was worth $40K back in the day - and you could drive it for at least 20 more years.

Year 12 = 2000, so that means the last change was due Sep 20, 2013. If you look at your deregistration document you'll see the dates for the last 2 shaken, or mandatory inspections. It was probably last serviced around then, about the time the 2 year inspection/insurance expired, which is why they sold it in 2015, prior to paying for the next inspection.

This is true. Everything but the 122 and 123GT is for sale. This will be Beth's car. Mine is due to be loaded on a ship March 27... :D

I've only got one date- the expiry date...July 29, 2015. 18 months and 1000km on the oil? Sheesh...don't need to change it for another 2 years.

Whoa, I thought you were into it for closer to 4. Yeah, almost nobody in their right mind would pay that. It's still a car you & Beth can conceivably drive for the rest of your lives, though.

Since when does anyone buy a 20 year old Volvo "in their right mind"? :P

I'd be REALLY curious to see what happens if you throw it up on ebay, and drop word around the internets. Put a reserve on it and giver.

I'd be curious too. Are 740 prices climbing yet?

I was talking to Brad last night and he told me I should clean it up and put it on eBay for $10,000 BIN. He claimed it would sell within a day or two...

That would surprise me, but I haven't been following 740 prices so much. That's gotta be tempting, no?

Well I pulled it out of the driveway and had another good look. Nothing new or unusual. Fuel gauge showed empty so put a splash in it and headed for the gas station. Evidently the fuel gauge doesn't work because it only took 13L. Temperature gauge doesn't work either. Maybe they're related? Bad ground? I opened the fuel door at the gas station and that silly plastic thing on the spring broke and the fuel filler door fell off. :( Went to reset the trip odometer after filling it up and the odometer stopped working... :(

The car runs and drives like I would expect for a solid car with only 22k on it. No rattles or squeaks. The engine doesn't make any strange noises. It doesn't have a ton of power but that's not unexpected. The clutch fan seems to run all the time so it sounds a bit like an airplane when the revs get up. Transmission shifts nice and firm and O/D works. I noticed it has a switch for front and rear fogs. The rears work. The fronts don't. It doesn't look like the car is wired for them. Maybe the wiring is buried in a harness somewhere. Same thing with the secondary H1 high-beam.

So...I have a few things to deal with...
