The Edmonton Rally Club hosted the Northern Loon TSD rally this past weekend and I decided to enter it in historic class. It was a pretty challenging rally made a lot harder by the weather. We got hit with a massive storm that soaked everything and the final three regularities were really hard to keep pace. I was trying to make up time on muddy, twisty, narrow roads at 90 kmph and keeping the car on the road was quite a challenge.

I'm running 165R15 winters on stock wheels and they definitely weren't the best for the job. The 'baby shit' type mud was just flinging everywhere and I couldn't maintain any sort of traction. On those stages, we got behind early and had to push really hard to try to make time back up and it felt much more like a stage rally than a TSD!

Here's the full recap if you're interested:

I'm definitely looking forward to rallying it again with some wider wheels and better tires. I'm considering entering it in the Loop Rally in September which I think starts in Nanton.

Thanks for posting that, good read. And congrats to KMorison for placing 1st in the 242GT, kudos to you both for running the Volvo flag!!

Thanks for that. Loon was a fun event with lots of challenges.
The biggest challenge for me was a catastrophic rad failure about 5 minutes from home. I had an exhaust manifold leak (broken stud) that was progressively getting worse as well, so it's some garage time for the GT until I get those things sorted.

Nice writeup! Keith, you should do one for the Loop as well.
