Well I've been struggling to get my car to idle for months now, and as of yesterday it seems to want to stall almost every time I stop. The idler motor's less than a year old, so and I'm starting to think that it could be that the ecu's gone.... Any chance that somebody has one around that might work on my lh 2.4 91' 940, that I could maybe try in exchange for some beer or something of the sort?
Also open to any other suggestions of what it could be. Tried to read the codes yesterday but apparently the little box does'nt work on my car...
thanks all

You sure you went through the right procedure to read codes? plug pin into socket, THEN turn key to ignition 2, then hold down button for 3+ seconds.

If that's the case, then maybe your ecu really IS fried.

Otherwise, is your base idle set correctly? disconnect/bypass the idle valve, then use the screw on the throttle assembly to set the idle at 650rpm if it's off.

obviously check all the ground connections and all that...

Ok I guess I did'nt notice that you had to put the pin in before turning the ignition, Thanks!
got a 2-3-2 too lean or too rich at idle and a 2-2-3 signal missing to/from idle air control valve.
Maybe I should try a new IAC motor, has anybody ever had trouble with the wiring to it?

wiring on a '91 will be fine, it's the grounds you'll want to check. IAC's do go bad. you can test by putting middle pin to ground and 12 volts to one side, then the other to make it open and close.

I assume you don't mean directly on the IAC, Are we talking on the connector going to the TPS?
Thanks again for the help

yup, pull the idle valve, and throw 12volts on it to make sure it's snapping open and closed.

Make sure it's closed, then re-install it but don't plug it in (so it's still closed) then see if the car idles. It should idle quite low ~700 rpm. If not, adjust the throttle screw.
