So in case you didn't attend the party, I guess I have some news.

If we're to believe the guy who sold Dale the dark green 123GT, and that there were only 6 sold in Alberta that year... I've got 1/3 of them in my garage at the moment.





I've got a copy of the registration to match this licence plate - it was last registered in 1974, and raced on the ice until sometime in the '80s. I'm getting this guy's phone number from the guy I bought the car from, and I'll hopefully get more answers soon.

The badge proving that it's a Canadian GT (133951), built in '67 (M), that the exterior is supposed to be light green (91), and that the interior is supposed to be green leatherette (426-553).


I believe this odometer hasn't been wrapped... It's in nice shape anyway.


One really goofy bit: Since this is an early '67, and they only made GTs in '67 and '68, it follows that it might be one of the first GTs built and not all of the parts might have been available at the time. OR, the tach may have failed and the PO installed this one. It sure looks like the original, just with a different face:

And these came in the trunk. One of them had a tire mounted on it for a little while, the rest are virgin. Lugs, washers, and center caps came in a box in the trunk. 14x6.75, so they might not clear the brakes I plan on installing.


What makes this car special is that colour combination. All the 123GT boards will tell you that red, white, and dark green were the colours that most of them were painted, and they would have had either black, red, or brown leatherette interior. Some of the "rare" colours were blue metallic, black, turquoise metallic, or dark blue. The "light green metallic" code is 53-91, the "53" part being "special". My car is just 91, nothing denoting it's "special", and it might be a different colour anyway. Dale has been speaking with people from the 123GT registry community and they've never heard of one with green interior...

Well it runs! I pulled and cleaned the carb pistons and dashpots, scrubbed them clean, set the valves, set the points, emptied the float bowls, poured some gas into it, and despite the rediculously leaky valves and rings, it came to life.

Wow, that's clean! Wonder if it was rebuilt then not run? I don't see double valve springs in there, do I?

It sure looks that way in the low-res picture, doesn't it? I had to come downstairs and look at the full-size one, and no... I don't believe so. I do have two sets in my garage, though I suspect you were hoping that existing dual valve springs would indicate a more radical camshaft. I don't think this is the case, 'cause even with the crappy compression the idle was still quite smooth.

Just FYI, my boss when I was at AFS had a 123GT. His dad bought it new and then passed on to him when he went to university. Last I spoke to him it was parked at his dad's place after it had been in a minor accident and left there since (>10 years). Although come to think of it, the damage he described was much like the damage in your pictures... did you say where you got that car from?

This one came from a guy named Bob Harder, who bought it from a guy named Stuart somethingorother. I've got Stu's last name and Bob's going to give me his phone number so I can get more info on the car. From what I can tell, Stu owned it from at LEAST 1974 to the mid '90s, if not from new 'till about 2000 or so. Bob said he'd had it for "a while" but didn't put a finger on how long that was, just that it was in storage for some time.
