Looks great!

One question, though: "nib" it?

Light sanding with 1000 grit to get rid of the dust "nibs"...there will be some heavier sanding on the hood as the sh!t just keeps coming out of the cracks. I've power washed it twice, blown it out a thousand times, wiped it out and still stuff comes out. When I put the sealer on - nothing...when I put the base on - stuff.

That's two coats of clear over the base. I've never shot paint this good before (Iwata LPH-400 rocks) - first time at base clear. The second coat of clear is sort of hard to see going on, but you have to just trust your technique and lay it down. Engine bays are the worst to paint.

since you'll clearly be bored and looking for stuff to do next year, I'll LET you give Darth the "winter beater" treatment if you like.

Where were you raised? Because wherever that is, they got the meaning of "beater" ASSbackwards!

Ya, the backwoods of Manitoba...that's where a lot of things go horribly wrong.

Hmmm, busy with Deirdre's knee opperation today - yesterday I got the engine cleaned up and stripped of the old parts. The new head with RSI Stage 1 NA cam is now installed with a new water pump and a few other nice bits. The engine was painted with POR-15 then a couple of coats of their engine enamel (brushed not sprayed this time). Looks pretty good all things considered. Tomorrow I have to get the K-Jet stuff sorted out and transfered from one head to the other.

There was no surprises inside the engine. The head was fine, the valves were good, the intakes were pretty carbon'ed up. There was cross hatch all the way up to the top of the cylinder - no ridge. So a quick head change and back in she goes. The only thing I found was that the intermediate shaft was off one tooth from the last time the timing belt was changed.

The intermediate shaft matters little, except that there are only a couple of positions where it allows you to set the distributor sort of in the middle of it's slot and have proper ignition advance. Get the intermediate shaft wrong and you have to choose between full left and full right on the distributor.

So if that's all you found, you've got a solid little engine! Did you pull the pan to check for oil pump transfer tube o-rings? Those silly little buggers like to pop out and cost you much pressure.

And give D a squeeze for us. I missed that she was going under the knife, so I hope she's doing well!

She's fine, but is imobilized for a while. I didn't pull the pan cause I didn't know about the o-rings...I've got full oil pressure (3 bar) all the time (unless hot, then it's down to about 2.5 at idle). I think things are fine. Going out to put the KJet stuff together.

If you've got 2.5 bar at idle when hot, you're golden. Carry on!
