I still have that ck1 / A-K cam kicking around. Greg was going to use it in his red thing.

I had a second after fixing a little wiring problem to do a compression test.

1 - 170 psi
2 - 172 psi
3 - 150 psi
4 - 175 psi

Done cold and dry.

Plugs...

It looks like #3 is suffering a little...the other plugs are burning much better.

Was I? Did I forget to pick it up or something???

Hmmmm...Craig, didn't you check out the bottom end, or at least the bores on this thing when you had the head off? All looked well didn't it?

Yes I did check the bores and while a little worn, they were still fine. That was 4 years ago and a few miles...150 psi is not bad, just a bit worn. It could be the cause of the lack of power as I'm not seeing all that I should see from that cylinder. It's best if the compression doesn't vary by more than 10% (ideally, more like 5%).

So, option 3...Greg speaks the truth. I could convince myself that this is worthwhile (and for the winter the B23E will survive). But I think there is a turbo motor in the future. Surely this is an act of mercy as I will have to sacrifice a 700 series car to get this done. And that's a good thing.

I've learned that I can't do the LH 2.4 as it needs a speedo signal (I'm checking if that can be tricked). I've not done all my research on turbo cars of this type (SHOCK)...catching up quickly.

Craig did you happen do do a leakdown on #3 to see if its the bores/rings that are worn? wet test to confirm rings?

If your upgrading motors I understand. Just curious.

I didn't have time to leak it down...I'll do it on the weekend and see. I just rebuilt the head, so I'll assume it's bores (380 000 km). But you never know.

OK boys - making a JY Reconnaissance run today to see what I can see. I'm pretty stoked to get this started and finally do the details on this car correctly. It's been a great car for me and now that we own a wagon and the 122 isn't coming out to play for a while yet, I'd like a car that doesn't make me sad when I hit the loud peddle.

Who's got what in their parts stash that they're not using/willing to sell?

So far, I've got the cam that Athal mentioned, I've just picked up a B&M ripper for my T5 for cheap on TB...add to this list as I give the JY report.

Greg's the good looking one and I'm the goof in the orange toque...say hello next time.

Jim - we're just pulling a few bits and bobs that we need. Greg's garage stash will also yield some parts.

Ok, just sounded like there was some fresh meat down there.

Just as I was pulling out of the access road a lt. blue wagon pulled in and gave me the staredown.
Wondered if it was a member here.

Currently at the main location:
Two-240s
One-740
One-760
One-850
One-S70 (fresh meat that drew me in but wrong color interior)
One-S80

Saturday saw the heart of the 940 turbo removed and brought back to a better place. Here we have Greg and his Padawan Learner beginning their Jedi engine removal routine.

Image

Then, several hours later and many tossed bolts and a few broken parts, out pops the engine. Then again, what else was it going to do when convinced by this forklift. The ugly 940 is now back in the yard and off to a better home in the crusher.

Image

Here's the greasy mess sitting on my floor...I'll run a compression test before stripping it.

Image

This is the pile of accumulated parts - THANKS GREG - you're the best.

No problem dude!!!! Glad we could get it done, and that I was able to get rid of some of the stuff in the garage. For a while there I thought we weren't going to get that engine out yesterday, but its a good thing we did considering the weather. I was pretty bushed after that. Can't wait to see how it all unfolds now.
