Indeed...

Well...one never knows if it's a good idea to let Craig loose with a grinder and a welder but here are some of the results...

The first order of the day was to remove the top of the inner fender. It was a piece of scrap metal welded in place with no regard to appearance. We decided to get rid of it and get something a little more decent in its place...

I like this one because of the tracer that zinged to the right side of my head as I was taking the picture...

No pictures of the finished product because...well...it's not finished...

One of the things holding me back on this project was the radiator. I spent hours searching for something that would fit without cutting and chopping too much. It was looking more and more like a custom rad was in the works and it was an option I didn't like. First, the cost was prohibitive compared to a stock rad. Second, I wasn't sure I wanted a rad I couldn't replace if something went drastically wrong out on the road. With some serious head-scratching, we came up with a solution...

I'll let the pictures do the talking.

Basically what we did was move the crossmember back so the rad could drop down and sit in front of it. We will use a 740 rad. It's the same rad as I had in the car before. I had no issues with the B20 but the B230 puts the waterpump pulley into the rad in the old location. The lower cover panel on the nose piece will be bent down to allow the rad to drop in. The hole in the new crossmember is to allow the lower rad hose to pass through. This new crossmember is about 10X stronger than what was in the car so we managed to stiffen things a bit in the process... :)

Hi Dale,

I'm jealous. :doubt: I want some of that stuff. I can really see how that new crossmember will stiffen things up. =D> =D>

I know I said it last time, but this car is supposed to be the last one....

I'm visualizing you putting it all together soon (?).

I'm visualizing that too...it's not working though

Hopefully it'll be together enough to drive it at some point this summer.

Bah, I'll beat that think into submission...just give me a big C-clamp and a plasma and I'm a happy camper. Oh, and the nicer looking weld is on the passenger side front - I got distracted on the driver side a little.

It looks very trick and we'll get the rad mounted and new upper fender supports in place next time.

I put my fenders and nose panel on tonight. They boyz who did the fenders #$^%&! it up - One fender won't bolt onto the nose panel, and the headlight bucket doesn't even come close to fitting!!

Sorry to hear about the fit problems...this is why I always tell Dale to go fetch me a fender.
