Nice work, Craig!

I was going to ask how you get paint or something into the areas that are capped off now, such as the control arm cap, to protect it from rusting inside out, but maybe powder coating can get in there? Or does it not typically matter anyway?

Also, just wanted to point out that you likely won't die from having a blown shock attachment up there, you'll just have a "blown shock", aka, none, and some clunking noises. The car will still stay up because the spring is still seated properly, right?

The capped LCA mount area is TIG welded all the way around - it's about as sealed as you can get. There is no way to get powder in there, but there is no way to get anything else in there either. At 1/8" thick - it will out live me in any event.

I know you won't die from the shock condition (it would be a bouncy ride though) but the way some repairs go on these cars, it's better to assume that fatigued metal is replaced, not re-welded. I've seen some scary stuff with lower control arms cracking under the stress of the larger bar.

I’ll be rebuilding my 1800 crossmember and it would be a big help if I could see the pictures. If it’s not too much trouble, and you still have them, could you repost them, or send them to me?

I’m expecting early next week a used replacement and will post up the photos once I get it disassembled. I plan on stripping it then having the weak points welded. Thx.

Hi, unfortunately life gets in the way, there’s been a few bumps on the road. The replacement crossmember sits in the box it arrived in. Damaged by Fedex too, and no love from them, the seller sent me 2 wishbones to make it good, and they’re still in the box too. Plan to tackle this over the winter and will keep you posted.
