I'm stuck on my top end rebuild again. I need seven (7) (I have a spare) of the lower spring perches for the old style, larger diameter valve springs for OHC engine. Its just a big stepped washer.

Anyone have spare valve train parts kicking around, or an old k-jet head?

I was about to fit the head and happened across a
page in the Bentley that gave specs for grinding valve stems which I
missed before- max 0.020" off the stem (I took 0.030") and min distance from
stem to keeper 0.138" (I have about 0.114").

Been out on my bike hitting Matt and Dales garages- found some
aftermarket springs and spring retainers that will give the clearance I
need, but missing the spring perches. No one seems to have any spares, even pulled the cam on Dales spare motor to check- wrong style.

So now I'm sitting here wondering if I should take my chances as is, at the
risk of dropping a valve, or keep calling/searching around for 8 lousy fancy
looking washers. VW shop might have the right size, and Bert and Jacks may have some old spares (not the dealer though, discontinued) but everyone is closed this weekend...sigh.

I'm going to wait and do it "right". I don't want to take this damn thing
apart ever again.

HELP!

I have a ton of heads kicking around, but can only send them as fast as the mail/bus goes.

If you want me to send some do you have picture for reference so I get the right one?

I think that's the newer style, about the size of a quarter. The old style I need is bigger, about twoonie size, just fits inside the valve bucket, same OD as a valve shim.

Anyone else??? Pick a part turned up nothing. Andy may have them, but they're buried in the middle of a fully rebuilt motor...

I hope concept 1 and b&j are open tomorrow. Bloody long weekend and i couldn't get anything done:(

WHAT? Jeepers - what a kick in the nuts. What springs? I'm running VW Type 1 springs with the 405 style cups and the stock 405 retainers as this was the thinest combo. I hope you're not running the Isky 625/626 springs as they have too much seat pressure.

Stole a set of I believe Isky dual springs from Matt, but just running the larger springs which should be a good upgrade according to the numbers Matt had.

The Isky retainers give me back the stem-upper seat clearance I lost when I machined the valve stems. They sit lower than the stock upper valve seat.
