Hey Pylon, you told me that stock offset on 740s was 25mm. I just found out that the BBS 15"wheels that I bought off Sol are 18mm. How big an effect can this have on the car. The only thing that I've noticed so far is that when I back up at full turn the tires do a small bounce and scrub on the pavement but doesn't do it full turn moving forward. Anyone have any ideas?

Depends on the wheel width as well.

They are 15 x 6 with 195/60's on them. I found a sight that said up to 1/2'" is within tolerances and this is only 7mm which is jsut under 1/4 in. so it should be fine. Might be better when I get better rubber on it also but if anyone has had experience with this phenomenon, I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

Sounds like the typical issues you might have with a lower-than-stock offset. The wheels/tires are pushed slightly outboard. This has no effect on the rear end but on the front the wheels tend to move in an arc rather than pivot on a point, so at full lock, things aren't quite pointing in the right direction. I found mine did more strange things backing up as well. Of course, 7mm isn't that bad compared to what some run but yes, this is typical. Unfortunately there isn't anything that can be done because the hub surface and the hub face on the wheel are both fixed and your issue is the wheel is already too far outboard.

Hi Pylon, yeah, I finally figured it out and I don't think I really have anything to worry about. It only does it if I do a hard turn in reverse and it is less than 1/4 in out and a wheel site I went to said you can actually get away with 1/2 in but that must really bounce in reverse with that much offset. It handles well and looks good so I think I'll just continue on. I was kicking around the idea of going 205/55 -15 tires though. The 195/60s are getting harder to find. The new tire is 195/65 but high pressure (44psi) so I'll wait til I need rubber and make a decision then. I don't think 205 would be too wide for summer. Gonna stick with my stock 185/70 - 14s for winter though. Might even go back to studs just for a little extra traction but it's amazing how well this car does on ice and snow right now. I think the low rpm's of the diesel on take off really helps. You just have to make sure you ease the accelerator slowly once moving. if that torque kicks in it's spin city.
