OK, so I'm looking for a few bits for my car. If anyone has any of this stuff, lemme know as I'm going to be in Calgary this week.

-rust free front strut tubes
-drivers side tailight for 245, early style (pre '80?)
-DL, GLT or Turbo grill for formal hood
-rubber trim front and rear off U.S. skinny bumpers (long shot I know...)
-fatter black beltline side trim off later 240 wagon. (Not sure when it changed but my trim is really thin)
-black outer door handles

Thanks.

GLT- silver frame with black grille. I think it's in good shape...I'll go check.

92+ cars come with black door handles, black body trim (similar to the turbos, but with much better dye/rubber) and black tail gate hinges. Except mine strangely. I think GLs retained the chromie at least early in 92 to be more "fancy." (my former beater was a 92 245GL).
You might have noted that the bumpers, tail lights and black trim on 90-91 240/740 fade much more than 92+ cars, cali cars especially.

What style skinny trim do you want? The turbo black stuff? Black on chromie? I've got a few boxes of it in decent shape for the front, though the wagon "hockey sticks" around the edges are so thin on 83.5-85 245Ts (which are the only cars that come with black skinny trim) back there that finding anything passable (or even worth re-gluing) is nye impossible. I hate hockey stick trim. It separates, is difficult to refurbish and made by the devil I think. In good shape and re-dyed black it looks sooper bitchen though. I just re-dyed and polished it on a certain t-bricks member's 242ti and have fixed some for my 242TI. I've got spares and don't need to horde it all.

Strut tubes wouldn't be even close to worth shipping I don't think, even if they did go across the border.

I think I gave my perfect sets of pre 80 245 tails to Adrian.

Thanks Athal. If its in good shape, I'll take it. The GLT one is exactly what I was hoping for. PM sent.

James, thanks for all the info, and for your consideration. Greatly appreciated! So finding the black door handles will be tricky I guess. I remember IPD selling them a while back, and they were really really expensive. Ideally, I'll keep looking then for a 92+ wagon, and get the trim, handles, tailgate hinges, and maybe the whole tailgate (or at least the handle off it). I've always liked that look. Everything else is blacked out on my car, so I'm hoping to continue that direction.

As for the skinnies....the stuff I'm looking for would be the turbo black stuff. I think these pictures show the stuff I'm thinking of....

I guess I should clarify....how does this stuff attach? Is it rubber like the commando trim, with the little knobs you pull through the holes in the body panels, or is it like the '86+ trim that attaches via clips? I always assumed (perhaps wrongly) that they attached like the commando trim. I drilled a bunch of holes for the '86+ trim already, but I really didn't like how it attached, and so removed it.

If you've got some you wanna part with James, that's cool. If it attaches with the clips though, I may reconsider, as I don't want to butcher my body panels again!

The pics do indeed show the black turbo/GLT trim for skinnies. If you gotta have it for the back, you might be better off asking someone in yew-rop. We only got it on the 83.5-85 245ti like I said. They got it on most all 92-93 cars since most euro 240s 81-93 come with skinnies. So, you'd need just an 81-93 245GLT or turbo or most 92+ 245s to get that stuff.

It attaches with clips in the same locations as the 86+ junk really (or close enough). The 86+ front bumper is very much like a skinny, but sticks out another .5-1" (13-25mm?) or so. The rear is MUCH bigger and tucks under the sheetmetal shelf in the body as opposed to over the top of it like a skinny skinny. The skinny skinny looks much better to my eye, but the 86+ rear bumper is much much more sturdy. Trim on the 86+ is just bigger all over (but much the same as a skinny) and I think makes a 245 sort of look all done up in plastic like a Grand Cherokee or something.

In front, I'd probably just hack the commando trim to fit in some way, since it doesn't use those PITA clips.

In back, the wagon body before 80 actually has a slightly different curvature (lol curvature lol). So, even if you drill holes for the PITA skinny clips, it is very difficult to make the proper skinny trim fit the body. Add to the fact that in North America you are looking for an 83.5-85 245T with good rear trim and you are looking for rocking horse poo basically. Still, the commando trim might need a lot cut out of the bottom. There has to be a creative solution for that.

If you have a 70s 240, I quite like the chromie trim personally. All blacked out in front with a flathood on a 244/245 looks just like an IROC to me. Volvos are so boxy that I like the chromie trim (in moderation...not extreme like chromie grille or silver headlight surrounds or commandos or something gaudy) just to break it up a bit and add a bit of garnish.
