Depends on the year. My '89 has the later lightweight gear reduction starter, but I don't know when they changed.

I've got an early one kicking around.

Volvo redblock starters fit '68-98, with the exception of the B30, which uses a larger starter and ring gear with a different bellhousing. The small ones are ~5-7llbs lighter. The big ones are often somewhat longer lived and work better with a lazy battery. I have a 1993 starter on my '81.

In either case, they often die from a bad ignition switch holding them in the start position or lazy driver.

I'd be shocked if someone doesn't have a 68-98 working redblock 4cyl starter.

Somewhere between 89 and 90 volvo changed to the small type.

Did you check the dates the posts were made?

And Ben, I got your PM. I think I've got a couple although I really don't know what condition they're in. There is one that came out of my 245 around somewhere though that is in good shape...

oh i did! but i noticed he went from denying the Starters of Matt and saying he was getting some from a friend to saying Grant Me Thy Starters, Oh Gods of Cars, Whom We Pray To From The Temples Of Torque (sad thing is there is a mechanic right near me...thats what the shop is called...the Temple of Torque)

He declined Matt's offer 6 months ago! He posted again looking for another starter 2 days ago... ](*,)

Try to stay focused...
