So after talking it over with some folks and doing some soul searching, I think it's time to give up on the blue car. It would take a couple grand to get it the way I want it, and then it would only last me a couple years 'cause then hopefully I'd have a 242 that would require some bits that are in the 244 right now. Because there are some bits I want to keep, and it would cost $$$ to replace them, it doesn't make sense to sell the car as a whole. That's not to mention that I don't feel good about selling the engine with the balance being the way it is, or with the thing being controlled by Megasquirt.

It also doesn't make sense for me to put another engine/transmission in it, because that's not all that'll be missing. It'll be too much work for me to dig up all the parts I'll need to put it back together, and $$$ besides.

Therefore, I'm offering the chassis for sale, and I think it will be most attractive to someone with a good running Volvo, with a poor body.

The good: The body is mostly solid, with good floors, rockers, fenders, etc. It'll have a full interior with GT seats front and rear, good carpets, decent glass (passenger front window took some abuse from grinding sparks) and a fairly new 90+ windshield. Comes with '86+ bumpers & air dam, '86+ mirrors, & Turbo side window trim.

The bad: It needs a heater core, and I'll be pulling out CERTAIN BITS of wiring. It'll also need front brakes, brake hoses & pipes, limiting valves, headlights & wiring, a differential, sway bars, & a few other pieces. Like I said, a donor car would be needed. There is a bit of surface rust bubbling up around the side window trim and some around the windshield, a little bit more serious rust around the bottoms of the rear doors, and there's bondo in the rear fender/spare tire well area and between the taillights. Splotchy paint, but I never got around to polishing out the overspray/old paint, so it might blend in better than it is now. It's really begging for a little bodywork and a respray.

If the purchaser wishes, I'll include front strut assemblies, rear springs & shocks, and hopefully everything needed to roll the car around. Shocks & struts are Boge Turbo Gas, and there are new balljoints attached to the struts in question. Steering rack is dodgy, but it's got new (<2 yrs old) boots/inner/outer tie-rods.

I will be keeping the transmission, the driveshaft, the speedo cable, the radiator, the headlights, the S60R brake assembly, the wheels/tires/spacers, the true-trac, the sways, the camber plates, the Bilstiens, the Megasquirt, the fuel system, and of course, the engine & exhaust. I'll also be pulling out the wideband and the boost gauge. Some of this stuff will be for sale later (headlights, radiator, engine, exhaust, big brakes), the rest won't be.

As far as when I'm disassembling all of it, it depends on what's going on with you folk. If someone really wants the body, I'll get on it immediately. If not, it might wait 'till the spring.

No dollar values for now, but I will be reasonable. I'm not giving it away, but I don't want to crush it because it's still got lots of potential left. The parts I'm selling off the chassis will not be sold as cheaply, because the chassis is really my biggest concern.

I'm really looking for interest and possibly a commitment before starting the process.

Thread un-closed!

A bump for the chassis. I really want to secure a new home for this before I start pulling it apart, and I'd prefer it goes to someone who might use it.

Guys, I'm pretty much talking free or a small donation for the chassis, which comes complete with some good bits. If I've got no bites in the next little while, I'm pulling it apart and if nobody's claimed it, it's getting crushed. It once belonged to a friend of mine who I went to junior high and high schools with, and he sold it to me a year or two before he died of cancer (for serious). I'd really prefer to see the car go to someone who'll use it than to crush it, but I've got no choice in the matter.

It doesn't get crushed, final.

Andy? You should get this car, if you need a place to store it - I now have space, garage space too even - up the ying and the yang.

How long would it take to transfer all the good bits off Andy's car onto this chassis? Couldn't take _THAT_ long? :)

- R

What I'm thinking this car will end up with:

- 1980 244, complete with 4 doors, Formal hood, grille, trunk.
- It'll have an almost complete interior, minus perhaps the dash cap & my center vent gauge cluster.
- All the interior wiring will be intact, basically everything from the firewall back.
- Taillights, all glass, all trim that's still on the car.
- I'll supply it with Boge Turbo Gas struts in decent shape, plus stock GL springs. It'll have stock control arms, bushings, trailing arms, torque rods.
- It'll have a rear axle (incomplete, more on that later) and a set of front hubs.
- It'll have '86+ front and rear bumpers, plus front air dam
- It'll come with 14" steelies to roll around on.
- brand new ball joints, tie rod ends, and practically new tie rods

The car will be missing:

- All traces of driveline and powertrain
- Fuel tank, fuel pumps, fuel lines
- All brake calipers, rotors, hoses
- Differential
- Headlights, headlight wiring, & front blinkers
- Megasquirt, and all engine related wiring
- Sway bars
- A decent heater core (blown, will still be installed at the time of delivery
- A decent steering rack (directional valving kind of sucks)
- Half the front brake pipes (removed them for S60R brakes)

What I could be persuaded to part with would be the dash cap, the center vent gauge panel (volt & 5 bar oil included, no boost or Techedge display) and poly bushed reinforced control arms/trailing arms and adjustable torque rods.

Andy, I'm glad you're taking this.

Stuff I'll be selling, pertinent to 240s. This is all I can think of for now, I'll probably think of more later and will update this list:

My E-code headlights - these are the LHD H4 version of the big glass early style "tv screens", FAR better than the dual H1 versions of the same light. One of them was nearly new when I got ahold of it - maybe one or two TEENY WEENY little pock marks in the glass, reflector like new. The other side I bought new from Volvo. When I installed them I added some headlight film (which has a couple air bubbles, oops) and since then they've only been used in the summer anyways so I doubt they've deflected a single piece of gravel. Comes with both left and right lens, both left and right mounting bracket, and some quad-round bezels modified for the occasion. I'm going to throw them on TB first, eBay second, starting at $300 USD. I paid $200 for just the one headlight lens. *** SOLD ***

S60R brake kit - Front rotors, calipers, caliper adapters, FCP braided stainless hoses front and rear, pads (Hawk street performance) front and rear, and the rear limiting valve eliminators. What you'll need to supply are: stock 240 rear rotors and calipers, 17" wheels (not sure if Polaris/Eiker will fit, just about any Volvo FWD wheel will tho), spacers for said wheels, and brake junction block plugs (to eliminate one of the two circuits going to each wheel). I'm going to throw them on TB first, eBay second, starting at $900 USD. I paid over $1500 CAD for this stuff.

Big radiator - taken from a 760 V6 car and then rebuilt at City-Wide Radiator with a 3-core, 5/8" spacing, 3/8" tube copper core. It's 24" wide, using the widest of the four mounting points in your 240 front end (the right-most goes unused, the left-most mounts the oil cooler or the airbox, depending on your model) so you'll have to relocate whatever you've got. The other issue with fitting this in a 240 is that the V6 uses tanks opposite to the 4 cylinder cars: hot upper hose is on the top right, cold lower hose bottom left, and overflow tank is on the left (driver's side). This rad has seen 5 coolant changes in a year and a half  so it's pretty new. Comes with hand made sheetmetal shroud and 16" cooling fan. $250 CAD, or $200 without the shroud/fan. Again, starting on Tbricks in a little while and on eBay a bit later.

240 GT front springs, 240 diesel front springs - Both springs have the same wire thickness and the same helix, the diesel springs have one more turn making them both taller and a little softer than the GT springs. A cut off the diesels should bring them close to the GT springs. $50/pair. I may have some wagon rear springs too, possibly even some overloads.

I'll take offers from the CVC guys first 'cause I like y'all, if I can't shake enough money out of you folk I'll let the Tbrickers know.

Matt, I may be interested in some of these suspension bits if you decide to part with them. Dash cap? Do you mean just the top dash piece...cluster up?

Nobody's spoken for the suspension parts yet because nobody's been given the opportunity to. I haven't decided if I'm keeping them or not.

And yes, the dash cap means the top vinyl part. No cracks.

Edit - I guess it wasn't clear by what I meant when I said "what I could be persuaded to part with". I meant, "I'm going to have to look thru my stash, think about things for a bit, and then decide if I'm going to sell them."
