Location: Didn't learn, now renovating bathroom #2, and you think cars are expensive!!!
My brother has finally got his Locost on the road but the M40 in it is shot, does anyone have a good used M40?

I've got one behind the garage...I think. There should be one there that I pulled from the 122. Actually, there is one in the 144 at my buddy's place too.

he called yesterday and talked to bobby M40 tranny's hard to come by.
Rebuild.....and if you find one open it up and take a look.

There are two different m40's- little interchanges except the syncros - speedometer output angle changes, layshaft diameter and bearing size changes, output flange changes, etc.
Without being certain what car exactly it came from and that it was original to that car, you'd have to be very very confident of your ability to piece together from several or to get parts look-ups that would work, before I'd look at rebuilding.
That said the youngest ones turned 34 this month, the oldest 48 (or is it 49?), so you *should* look at rebuilding... catch 22.
