NM, ordered one from worldpac. $35, not worth the time to go yank from pyp, especially since they probably charge $20 for a questionable used one anyway. it's NOT the scantech brand, so we'll see how it holds up.

Centerforce PP seems to put alot of strain on these- that's 2 in less than 40k I'd guess.

I used to get those from volvo directly. They were ~$40 and I have the worst luck with clutch cables. I've snapped two in my last 2 240s. If only that were a batting average. The worldpac ones last decently well, but are a bit more stretchy IIRC and the adjuster kind of sucks. So, in the first few hundred miles you might get to adjust it a bit more often.

I'm going hydraulic in my 80 DL when the M46 comes out. I have only cracked one old hydraulic fork with that setup so far. Thankfully, the trans can stay in to change a hydraulic fork. I haven't had any trouble with the master or slave compared to cables.

You can get a hydraulic fork out (more importantly, IN) without pulling the tranny? I couldn't.

yea i snapped the one on my 240 as well, i ended up buying on from auto value and it worked terribly, it kept backing itself out over time when you would adjust it.

I don't know what I did that was so special. It is definitely not much fun, but IIRC, I pulled the slave, then moved the fork away from the pivot and took an angled ratcheting wrench to unscrew the pivot and take the fork out with the pivot (after massaging the wire clipppy thing for the fork to the pivot on both install and removal).

Then, to put the new one in, I clipped it into the release bearing, and carefully massaged the wire clip away from the ball pivot so that I could spin the pivot on and tighten it. Then, I clipped the fork over the pivot and installed the slave. I got to do this job a couple times in the last year, once in a getrag car with a volvo bellhousing and modified fork and once on just a super stock M46 740T. I can't imagine what is different on yours...flat flywheel or release bearing changed somewhere along the line? On a 740T that needs a clutch I just do the fork at the same time to save the discomfort of changing a fork later on.

Anyway, thats what I know. I'd still waaay rather do all that to sneak a fork out of a car than an M46. Granted, 740 alloy M46 sucks a lot less than doing an iron M46 in a 240.

Yeah, flat flywheel, unknown TO bearing, and some washers to bring the clutch fork into proper position. The first time I pushed the pedal I overextended the slave, popping the seal and dumping hydraulic fluid all over the floor.

Mighta had something to do with it.
