I need some winter rimes(tire optional) for a 1998 V70 AWD, and i 'm not sure what the bolt pattern is. I got an offer for 600 alltogether, but that seems a bit too steep for my budget(all funds to the rally car !) Does anyone have some spare rims up for grabs?

Thanks!

There was a girl selling used snow tires in hillhurst on kijiji, lemme see if i can find the ad....

They're probably long gone, but maybe worth dropping a line- the tires were shot, but alot better price for rims!

I have some steelies you can have. You'll want to take them to Consolodated Compressor and sandblast them 'cause they're rusty. $50? Offer?

How much would it be to get em sandblasted, and where is the place?

I plugged in a 98 V70XC in to 1010 tires size calculator and it came up with a 205/65-15 as stock so the tires in the ad are too big. The bolt pattern and offset should be the same from 98 to a newer (they don't say what year these were from) XC although I think the hub size changed slightly along the way? Seems like a pretty decent price depending on how much tread is left. If you got the rims you could always flip the tires and run a 205/60-16 to match the original 15" size.

I wouldn't put used tires of any kind on an AWD car with a wimpy AWD.

Man up and buy nice, completely matching, completely correct size tires and rotate often and drive gently with those.

Ask me how I know.

I see 15" steelies on a 850/70 of those years once in a great while. Not sure what they are worth, but not $600. Distance and caughing up more like $150 would be the big problems...

Great point on the foibles of the Volvo AWD system, being a former AWD owner I should have thought of that as well. I was going to edit my post to say buy Matt's 15's, clean them up, buy some new skins and rotate them religiously.

Not just "volvo AWD" though their version is really pretty crappy, but any AWD car really. And most volvos 1999 and newer are some of the biggest miserable POS things I've had the pleasure of doing a little work on to pay the bills, much as I hate them or potentially compromising reputation working on them. If I had the choice between a toyota 4-runner/highlander or subaru and any late volvo, that is a no brainer.

I won't buy a used AWD car. AWD...means someone *can* drive it in horrible places, but not get stuck, and it is always engaged. My image of a used high performance AWD car is one that someone clutch dumped, drove on uneven pavement with 3 mis-matching tires at uneven pressures and the spare and through ice/snow/sleet thinking nothing of it all its life. Picture buying an EVO used or something lol. "nah man, I like totally didn't clutch dump it, do donuts, or crub the tires at uneven pressures"

If I had an AWD, I'd want it to be basically brand new and be a total nazi about rotating tires, corner weighting the car and setting the pressures perfectly to that, aligning it and having them all match perfectly. Volvo allows you 5% wear difference, and at the best of times, those piles of junk will granade the angle gear if you really want to actually use the AWD in uneven traction surfaces 100% of the time even when not driving like a savage and using the car gently as intended with good maintenance.

So, uh, sell the car and get a good subaru from someone who is a maintenance nazi with the usual annoying things fixed and never look back...
Motors get tired in those if neglected as bad as whiteblocks...less nickel and dime and more just all at once ~100-150K miles though.

Or buy Matt's wheels and pony up and get perfect tires and be nazi about all the wear parts.

I'm not cynical at all, am I?

Boy, I'm almost sorry we didn't buy that '01 V70... I'd LOVE to hear what you would have said about that!

Instead, coincidentally, we bought a Highlander. LOL. I'm sleeping much better than I think I would have been.

At least the '98 V70 only has the 4 speed auto. One worry gone!

Yup, it's why our 02 V70 AWD had to go, I couldn't get the thought out of my head of dumping mega $$$ in to keeping it going when the inevitable hit. In a way i miss the car, it really was a comfortable road trip car, but I'm glad it's gone with it's potential/inevitable bills...
