My wife's 850r has gone through another fuel pump, looking for another great deal from a board member. Let me know if you have one available.

Thanks

Have you found out why it failed, before you replace it (at the risk of having the same thing happen)?

I believe it's because I was stupid and didn't change the filter at the same time I did the last fuel pump. There were a few plastic filings around the first pump that failed, pretty big ones, not sure where they came from. Are there any other filters I could change while I'm at it?

Got pump and fuel filter at the parts shop yesterday, will be changing tonight.

You called it. Changed the pump and filter, no change. Did some research then checked the codes and got 3-3-5, so something is wrong between ECM & TCM. Anybody have experience with this? Not able to find much info online.

http://www.justanswer.com/volvo/30hv9-l ... oblem.html
This site suggests that it is a "faulty mass air flow sensor, and or miss adjusted Throttle and throttle position sensor". It is also for a 240 but the fault code is the same, good chance the problem is the same.

http://forums.clubvolvoquebec.com/showthread.php?t=1084
This website suggests that the motronic 4.3 equipt turbos have this, 3-3-5 request for Malfunction indicator lamp signal from auto transmission ECU as the error code.

http://volvoforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=18005
Slightly unrelated as they were suggesting spark issues but might be worth a try to look at some of the issues to troubleshoot.

Another site about testing crankshaft sensor and cam sensor.

http://translate.google.ca/translate?hl ... rmd%3Divns
"3-3-5 Request for miljölampständning from AW50-42, wrong message" this is according to a senior member of a swedish volvo club, as stated for 1996 volvo 850's.

Checking through other swede 850 won't start issues, the main complaints were fuel relay, fuel pump, cam and crank sensor, A few regarding arcing coils.

" I hadde the same error on a 855 t5 I hadde, check the fridge at the top sits 2x relays, one hadde a connection ärgat of this gave the same symptoms " not sure what that means.

JACKPOT!

Code 3-3-5 (Fault In Wiring Between TCM and ECM)
1) Check status message on Volvo Scan Tool (998-8686). If
status message is PERMANENT FAULT, SIGNAL TOO HIGH or PERMANENT FAULT,
SIGNAL TOO LOW, go to next step. If status message is INTERMITTENT
FAULT, SIGNAL TOO HIGH or INTERMITTENT FAULT, SIGNAL TOO LOW, go to
step 3).
2) If fault is permanent and signal is too high, check wiring
between ECM terminal B26 and Transmission Control Module (TCM)
terminal B15 for a short circuit to voltage. If fault is permanent and
signal is too low, check wiring between ECM terminal B26 and TCM
terminal B15 for a short circuit to ground.
3) If fault is intermittent and signal is too high, check
wiring between ECM terminal B26 and TCM terminal B15 for an
intermittent short circuit to voltage. If fault is intermittent and
signal is too low, check wiring between ECM terminal B26 and TCM
terminal B15 for an intermittent short circuit to ground.

Now that I have redone my search, grounds also seem to be an issue. Hope this is of some help1

Thanks for the links, I found most of those already. I also found the problem, fuel pump relay. Jumped the appropriate clips and started right up. Now I'm on the hunt for a relay.

Thanks again for the info.
