Yeah, the diesel would be awesome with a big turbo and whatnot! I'd be all over it, although I wonder if the smokescreen would get tiring after a while.

Its kinda tempting.
The story with the Smurf is kinda sad really. I've been meaning to post an update on the build thread...hopefully in the next couple weeks. I've still got lots of love for that car, and the new head helped things IMMENSELY, but I'm starting to see that there may be an end in sight for that car. I never thought I'd say that, as I figured it would be a keeper. But the big thing is the rust. In the last year its grown a massive hole on the one wheelwell, another has started on the other side, and rust has sprouted on the tailgate and most of the door panels. I've never seen anything creep up so quickly. When I bought it it was fairly rust free. All the windows leak including the seals on the big rear windows, which is also rust I believe. Then I popped the oil filler cap to find the exact same white frothy mess that I had before the head swap. I'm guessing this is all blowby. Its there in large quantities. So I still need to do another leakdown test to see if anything's changed. I wasn't too worried about it, as I saw an engine swap for this car in the near future, but I'm starting to see that it may not be worth it. I'd be better off pulling all the good parts of this car, and dropping them into a cleaner less dented shell. That's the quick summary. Sorry for the threadjack.
That said, I really do prefer the earlier cars to the later. I agree Jim that the single round flathood is way better than the quad squares. I just love the early dash, earlier signals, and the car has to be a hideous bright colour for me to love it, which usually means a '70's ride. So it goes with me I guess! I suppose I'd settle for an early '90s 240 wagon, but I still don't think I'd love it as much.
