Did any of the 200/700/900 cars come with an electric radiator fan? I was thinking of installing one on my radiator inplace of the one on my water pump. I am asking this because I was hoping for a bolt-on solution to this.

I've never seen one...but don't let that tid-bit of non-information discourage you. Both Dale and I are running e-fans in our 122's. I got my fan from a Mercedes in the JY (Bosch 16" for $15) and put it in with an e-fan install kit from Summit Racing for another $35. The kit included the relay, wiring, and temperature sensor (I added that to one of the external coolant lines.). Works like a charm (off at 175 on at 185 degrees F).

Makes things under the hood a little cleaner and scares the crap out of people when the grandpa car fan kicks in (it moves a lot of air). I'm sure it saves me a HP or two, which is more relevant on my car than any of the others on this board (I've got the least HP). You could also buy a Flex-a-Lite or other fan, just get one with a temperature sensor (thermister) rather than the bulb that you stuff into a rad hose.

Alot of us (well, me at least) use GM 3.8(?) fans, wired to a relay controlled by a switch in the upper rad hose.

That being said, '94 and '95 940s used 2-stage electric fans, and came with slightly larger rads (that still fit in a 240 i think).

I guess I will have to make a trip to Pick N Pull. I think I saw a couple of mercedes there whan I was there last. The Gm section should have plenty of 3.8's.

Yup, just cut off two tabs on the GM units and put some long screws through the corners and they fit a 240 rad almost perfectly.

I know that on the latest 940, there was an electric fan.

But no idea if you can get one like that here.

940 had factory fan and thermo-switch in rad. Im using a late 740 or early 940 rad in my volvo with a built in thermoswitch and a taurus fan.

The 92 and later 7/9 and 850 use similar fans, though thee 7/9 fan and 850 fan have a different shroud. The 92+ fan is coontrolled by the ECU and comes on at ~200F or something obscene. Every e-fan car I've pulled a head off of shows signs of getting significantly warmer than the old clutch fan cars.

Volvo also put a much better alt in the 92 and newer cars that lasts much longer under continuous heavy load. The plastic fan with a good clutch is my preference over the electric. I can't feel any significant loss in power with the clutch fan or rev response with it unlocked, so it doesn't bother me.

I like my fan. When it's hot, it sounds like I have a big mean engine!

I used a 2-speed 16" fan from a full sized mid 90s FWD GM car (a Buick Park Avenue I think) for my e-fan conversion in the 240. I just went out and measured the rad on my '95 940 and those GM e-fans should fit nicely in a 900/700.

To do the conversion I also used a couple 40 amp relays and a thermal switch out of a mid to late 90s VW Golf (they use 2 speed fans) and a rad hose thermal switch adaptor out of a SAAB 900.

You can also use the smaller 1 speed fans out of the FWD GMs with the 3.8 litre engines but I prefer the 2 speed fan system I used.

I've found that the e-fan hardly ever kicks on in the 240 even in stop and go traffic in the summer time which goes to show those stock clutch fans are just a total waste of power and gas about 98% of the time.

Here's a pic of the 2 speed 16" e-fan in my 240:
