ok, I took my rear seats out of the volvo. My dream is to build a sub box that will house two subs a nicer than I currently own amp, and my inverter... but be level with the rest of the trunk... as in, take up the space the rear seats took up minus the backrests... that way I can just lay down and sleep in my car and watch movies when camping... and have subwoofers, and uh, power small towns with 1750watts of awesome...

so, anyways, I was thinking of filling a very very large plastic bag with expanding foam, let it settle, pull it out and shave it till its perfect and then use it as a template... but there might be a better way?

I would lay poly down in the back seat area and build the side walls and dividers of plywood. (Normally you'd use MDF, but for this I would be more concerned with toughness than density). Set the plywood frame on top of the poly sheet, and start fibreglassing from the inside of the box, making sure you run it up the plywood at least a couple inches. Once you've got a few good layers of fibreglass down, install the lid and start upholstering it.

For design, I would build the box walls first and then set the dividers the right distance apart so that you've got two cavities of the right volume for the speakers you choose, and then in the center section you install the inverter, amp, crossover, etc. Make the lid 3 pieces with the two side panels screwed down and the center part hinged so you can access everything.

That's my idea - any others?

too bad its a 7, my box fits perfectly in the trunk of a 2. I would just take measurements with a tape measure and then go from there. Theres programs you can use to build a box that wont over extend your subs(blowing them) or you can build a box that is tuned to a certain frequency too. Mine did both.
