Last year, when I blew up my water pump, I ended up getting it fixed in Edmonton. (Would have been a stupid idea to drive more than 200km with no coolant, no?)

Now, a brand new oem water pump with less that 15000km on it. It's leaking like hell by the seals. That's my fifth water pump on my car, and the 4 first ones lasted almost exactly 100,000km before failing.(more or less 2000km. Still have all the bills to prove it)

Next time, I'll put my car on a train and send it home to Quebec. It won't be more expensive and I'll be 110% sure that my car is correctly fixed.

Leave it :) Volvo water pumps seal themselves over time, magically... All mine have! :D

There should be at least a one year warranty on the part and installation. knowing how much you drive, 15000km means you only had it done a few months ago!

Fan clutch and belts messed up chewing them up? I've seen that once in a while. The volvo waterpump could be sturdier for my liking to drive the fan...it has a fairly narrow aluminum casing and not overly large bearing surface.

Is the fan clutch unlocking correctly? The fan clutch should slip and dampen the fan over 2500RPM a lot...if you have a bad blade or dead clutch, you could be chewing up the pump without the pump being the problem. A new fan clutch and blade usually runs ~$60 USD. I find the fan clutches start to get kind of lazy and on/off and blades get kind of nasty by 150-200Kish...so if your car has a ton of miles, you might want to replace it. Belts rolling over smooth otherwise? The 240s tend to have less trouble driving the fan with the dual belts and larger water pump pulley.

Chuck the small B230FT water pump pulley in the trash for one from a B230F if you haven't.

The "Hepu" pump lasts about 100K on a cold weather clutch fan car provided the belts and fan clutch are fine. The electric fan cars seem to be able to go 150-200K on a pump. I can live with the shorter life to keep the clutch fan.
