Yup, that's pretty riduculous. Groved heads FTL.

They're supposed to work. I'm not sure I buy it as something that you can just do by eye or by hand, but it's all based on the quench/squish principle. The ones buddy cut in his head are pretty useless, IMHO. They're supposed to direct the flow of air from the squish band into "dead spots" in the combustion chamber to improve mixture motion - a decent 4v head barely has any dead spots, so a solid squish band is probably the best solution.

Edit - for me it was the piping WELDED to the intake manifold and to the intercooler... I guess the engine doesn't move much, does it?

I'd still like to see someone do the grove thing in a proper scientific manner. Sure they worked for a lawn mower engine (Singh's test bed), but the vast majority of the work that has been done by people on their own is not testable (i.e. they change all the variable and claim that the increase in performance is due to the head).

Ya, that pipe will hold - and the paint...what was the guy thinking? Did you see the tranny shots with the paint fouling on the oil and silicone? Nice build.

Straight from a guy who was the chief cylinder head guy for 4 different cup teams...

"It might work in a low rpm engine such as a lawnmower or forklift. I would consider it a waste of a perfectly good cylinder head to do that to any automotive application..."

I can dig up the email if you'd like...
