Well...I've had an adventurous hour...

I was sitting in the living room watching tv when I hear this thud on the front window. I immediately suspect what it is because the house was egged a couple of weeks ago. I jump up to look out the window just in time to see a kid jump back in a Ford F150 and speed off. Grrrr...

Well...a lady who was taking her little one around trick-or-treating comes to the door to tell me this and the first three letters of the plate were CUR. I thank her profusely for that tidbit of information. I now know what kind of truck and the first three letters of the plate. That's plenty for this nose...

As Matt will tell you, I've got a nose for finding things. I hop in the Versa and go on a little tour, thinking these clowns may be local. Head around the crescent where a known bad kid lives. Nope...no truck. Drive down to the area where they knocked down all the houses thinking they might be hanging out down there. Nope. Drive up Ogden Road...figure I'll drive to the gas station and then come up the hill from that side. What's parked at the gas station? A black Ford F150 with three kids milling around. Hmmm...I pull around the corner and sure enough, SUR... I drive by them to see if I know any of them. None look familiar so I pull up cross-ways, behind the truck. One kid is trying to wash something off the side of the truck. I roll down the window...ask them what's on the side of the truck. "Someone threw egg at us", they say. Really? You sure you're just not bad aim? Huh?? Well...one of you just threw an egg at my house and I'd like to know why. I don't know what you're talking about. Really?? Just 10 minutes ago your truck stopped outside my house and one of you punks threw an egg at my house. It's all good. I've got your whole license plate now. I'm sure the police will be calling one of your fathers to let him know what you kids are up to tonight...

So...I drive off. I get home and start looking in the phone book to see what number to call. Just then Beth opens the door for some more trick-or-treaters and calls to me to tell me there is a cop car right across the street.

I suspect someone's father will be asking his son some questions tonight... :D

Oh yeah...CUR 840. If anyone has access to that info I'd love to know who these punks were...

Vigilante justice FTW...but watch out - there's some dudes in Calgary that will shoot first and ask questions later from what I hear. So did you report this to the cops? Hopefully the parents won't just brush it off as a Halloween prank.

nice work dale, I had a similar incident about 2weeks ago. I ended up chasing the kids down and cornering one of them. Luckily they didn't do any real damage just made a mess in the back alley and threw some stuff on the road so myself and a couple guys in a house near where i cornered the kid made him and his buddy clean up everything in the alley and street, then we got all their info off their IDs so they aren't tempted to come back, they were U of C students too. The one kid was in tears and they were both pretty compliant so I opted to not call the cops on them.

Good to hear you tracked em down, i bet they'll be taking the city limo come monday.

How you and that pointy little nose of yours do it, Dale, I don't know. You must have shoved magnets up there when you were a kid, or something.

Police won't do anything, your only hope is these kids have decent parents and the parents will do something.

no criminal offense for egging.

No vigilante here. I simply found them, had a brief conversation and left, once I wrote the plate number down. Let the cops take care of the rest.

I talked to the cops...they were outside the house visiting the neighbor across the street. They ran the plate and made a house call to the owner of the truck. They came back later to let me know they had spoken with the owner of the truck (one of the kid's father) and he was not pleased. As Jon suggested, he'll be riding the CT limo for a few weeks...

I believe that a good scare does a lot more that an actual criminal charge.
Having the police talk to the parents and the have the "wrath of Dad" take over is great.

Good work Dale

Excellent - CT Limo for a couple of weeks will send a reminder.

Back in july some A**holes decided that it would be funny to rip emblems off cars in my neighbor hood. well my car was a victim they ripped the whole grill off. well apparently sometime in september they were trying to do the same to some one that lived up the street he ran out of his house and ended up chasing them down and cornered them in a cul-de-sac and called the cops. the kids parents were contacted and the kids had to write apology letters to any one that had reported similar acts of vandalism in the area. how far does an apology letter go when someone is having to fork out $80 to mazda for a new emblem? but thanks to athal I got a nice "new" egg-crate grill for a good price.

thats another point for vigilanteism!
and another point for the helping hands on cvc :D
