woodenshoes, what are your thoughts on the PA $229 refurb compressor? I was also interested in it because of the cost. Otherwise, because im in the same boat as you were, I was instead going to settle on the makita 2hp 4 gallon as I only plan on using an impact gun and possibly a nailer.

So far I am happy with it, although I can see now what everyone else was talking about regarding volume. When using my impact gun on wheel lug nuts I can get ~ 2 complete wheels off (depending on tightness) before it kicks in, based on that the 4 gallon makita would be useless with an impact gun. Have a look at crappy tire as well as their latest flyer lists a sale on compressors and acc's., the ad has a picture of the CH unit that I have but doesn't list a specific price.
