I'm pretty sure all the GL models had black interiors. I'm not sure what year they went to hard plastic pockets but the '75 242 had those door panels. I'm pretty sure later 142's had the same door panels. I really don't recall seeing black interiors in anything but GL models though...

Which GL models, Dale? There are plenty of blue interiors in GL cars, and I know you know that so you must be talking about something specific. 242 GL? 140 GL?

Vik, I'm pretty sure they're out there. I have the same panels in orange in my wagon, and they're out of a '74 144. Prior to '74, the 140 series had the extra triangular window up front, which left an indent on the door panels to accomodate the tiny little pillar sticking out.
As for 240's, I'm not sure when the style changed, but I'm thinking '77? Not too sure.
They're definitely out there in black....I'd look for a nice '74 142. The panels look a lot nicer, and the stupid plastic map holder doesn't stick out and get broken.

77 seems to be the changeover. Our '71 142E had them in black, but it had wing windows and probably wouldn't fit, or would look a bit strange without a window scraper on the front parts and the little pillar indent. Could always save a bit of weight and swap 140 doors and latches in...
So, I'd look for a 74-77 142/242 of some sort, which there aren't a ton of around here. Or a 78-80 silver bertone if you want heavy, likely rotten and wood on them...ack grandpa wood trim is gross.
The 142 GL sans wing windows exists in 74 only IIRC.

Yeah...I was thinking about 242 and 142 GL models... I don't think they made a 242 GL after about '78, did they?

mmm...might have to take a look

in prep for making the car rally legal i have to keep a door panel in there for "not getting cut by metal edges in the door frame"...this design of door panel suits what i want to do as far as the zippered navigator organizer and look etc

ciao

State side, there aren't any 78+ 242GLs that I know of, and by 78 they all had plastic map pockets except for the bertone anyway. In 78-80 years, 2x2 came in flavors of DL, GT and bertone down here. Maybe affix a bertone pocket to the passenger door panel? Finding a bertone probably won't be that easy, but probably easier than a 74-77 car, especially a 1/2x2GL.
