Long shot here, but I just got a call from a friend who blew the motor in her Focus outside of Oyen. No one within 200km around there apparently can fix the car, so at the moment it appears her only option is a VERY expensive tow.

Anyone know anyone that way, or have any suggestions what she can do?

Wow...that sucks. Oyen is in the middle of nowhere :(

I'd offer to pull a trailer out there and haul it back but I'm heading out today for some much-needed R & R and it's 300 km the opposite direction. How soon does she need it back here? Google Maps shows Oyen is 300 km from here. 600km round trip and $65 for a car transport trailer from U-Haul. Figure about $100 for fuel. The problem is if the engine is toast, getting it on a trailer might be a challenge. I guess that's what come-alongs are for though, huh?

I might be able to help out towards the end of the week or on the weekend. I'll be out of town until at least Thursday night though...

No worries. I think she is trying to work on a deal better than $2/km to get it towed somewhere closer. I suggested Drumheller and then leave it to get an estimate and bus home. I'm pretty sure she blew the motor trying to limp it to oyen overheated.

A Focus would make a pretty nice platform for an EV conversion...

Just back from a long day on the road- rescue mission! Its actually her friends contour that crapped out, so still a ford product. Apparently she has an uncle who knows someone who knows someone, so sometime this week it will get back to calgary. AFter that, she hopes it goes to the crusher.

I had to go get them because they had a dog and couldn't take him on the bus. Nice day for a drive, and the 242 ran great. Friggin hot though, the temp gauge would creep up the more I went past 140. Plus I still have to find that annoying suspension clunk I got since the accident...
