Ok, so this isnt about Volvo's. Sorry but I dont have one anymore.

I'm swaping engines in my truck to a 240sx and I have some questions and I know you guys will know the answers.
Also I will be running all aftermarket gauges (electronic) and heater, so those wires can get ditched.

I need to know if I need to keep any of the wiring off the engine thats currently in there?
Or do the ECU's for FI just run thier own little game and the body wiring (like lights and well, lights) run its own show?

Anyways, I know its a nissan and not a volvo but any help would be great!

Ohh and no, I dont want to megasquirt it! :P

Usually the engine does it's own thing, but depending on the year of the car you'll be pulling the engine and harness from, it might have other sensors or controls that the engine ECU is trying to control. If the donor is 96 or up, you'll have all sorts of sensors for things like EVAP, vehicle speed sensor, and the ECU will be trying to control the gauges, transmission (if applicable) EGR, etc. If it's older than '96, especially if it's older than '94, you'll have a better chance of turning the ECU into a standalone, and having it fairly seamlessly control the engine no matter what chassis it's in.

im not sure about nissan but like he said its pretty much independant on the earlier cars.

On my mr2 i kept the stock engine harness from the 3sgte and just modified the original body harness connector to make it plug in like stock. You will have to splice some wires but it really not that hard on older models.

Awsome, thanks guys!

Trying to find a decent KA motor is tough though. Might have to go the JDM route and get a 1.8 turbo engine.

200hp in a little Datsun.... Hello fun!

Sweet thanks man!

I just looked at a few more pics and the CA18 and SR20 are front sumps and I need a rear sump, so the KA doesnt work either.

Time to start hunting!

This sucks balls.

Ya its for my truck.

I need a rear sump because the steering linkage goes under the front of the oil pan.

I could put in a rack and pinion but I dont want to reinvent the wheel on this thing!

put a new steering rack in its super easy if you can weld and measure... Just make sure you get one that doesn't have power and you are good to go. since you are swapping a motor anyways its only a couple hours extra work to get rack and pinion in there... all the guys with early toyotas convert to rack and pinion this way.

you will need to weld up engine mount anyways so IMO i would just do it all at once so you are happy with it.

Ya, I might have to do that.

Or I have dual Dellorto carbs I can put on it. They would suck to tune but would look really bitchn'!

As for the 350, way to big for that truck. I'm trying to fit the stock hood, and at 24" to the top of it, its alittle tight!
