I have the possibility to get a 2000 V70R with 105,000 miles for 12,500$ (CDN)

Overall, is that a good car or should I stay away? Is the price decent or is that a ripoff?

I want that for 2-3 years only. And I really want a wagon.

Any input is welcome. :!:

If I give it, I'll give it to my father/brother!

People are willing to pay for cars that aren't running, so my car is worth more than zero!

And I'm not sure that I would be happy to give/sell it to someone who would just beat the shit out of it senselessly. :P Anyway, I will enjoy it this summer and I'll see next fall.

But seriously, I want your thoughts about this. It must be done soon and if I shouldn't take it, I should say so quickly. To you, it's a go or no? :?:

I think it's a good deal, provided it's solid and in good shape. Keep in mind that the FWD cars are of a different quality than the RWD cars. In many ways they're better, but in some... not so much.

Should be AWD correct?

Check the Bevel gear (Like the transfer case) for leaks at its seam. They are pricy units.

Make sure the tires all very close to the same rolling diameter (7% differance is allowed, but no more).

One low tire can kill a Bevel gear (Bigger issue on the XC90s though).

That would be my only concern. A customer at work has one with 450K km on it. No huge problems with it.

I called my trusted mechanic in Quebec.

160,000km for these AWD and the "cream" is gone. The AWD would cost too much to maintain, I'd be better with a T5 FWD.

Everybody agree that the AWD is a expensive pain in the ass.

So I'll continue my frustrating hunt for a 945.

Someone else wants a V70R?

I can get '98 V70 turbos from the US with ~100,000miles for about $10k CDN delivered. V90's are nice too. 940turbos are cheaper of course, but harder to find.

Just replace the "cream"....

They are fine as long as you don';t overheat the bevel gear or if its leaking, stay away

Vibrations only when the front CV joint on the driveshaft wears out, or if you bend the shaft.

The CV joint is replacable now (kit now available)

The only other problem would be the center mount failing. But thats very very uncommon. Just find another shaft a wreckers at that point (they are 1100 brand new).

Had a 04ish S60R come in a couple weeks ago with a "clunk".

He managed to overheat the angle gear, seize the bearing, then crack the top off the housing. That was wierd to see.

You have to go to the States to get a decent deal on a 940. No two ways about it. Check out this posting that I made and call the guy that I got my car from. He's in Oregon. Volvord has dealt with him too and also gives him high praise. Right Ian ?

http://www.calgaryvolvoclub.com/forum/v ... .php?t=894

Tell him exactly what you want and he'll do his best to find it for you. He'll make sure the car is A-1 when you take possession of it.

Either that or try www.carquest.com and do a search for 940s in the US. Hoperfully you'll find something decent in the western states.

Roger

Or you could just contact Athal, who is trying to make a living by finding cars for customers. That way it helps a friend and not some random stranger.
