Thanks for all your votes & comments, I guess Rome was paying attention because at a Race City meeting tonight he announced that for Secret Street this year, gates will open at 5pm & racing will start at 6:30pm.

I was at the meeting last Friday for theannouncement of change in management at Race City - Lots of people there and a very POSITIVE atmosphere. Lets hope Rome Awde (A CSCC member) can make this place GO.

Race City Unveils Grand Plans
Rome Awde has officially taken over management of Race City. The president of the newly formed Calgary International Speedway Inc. provided an outline of his plans for the track at a meeting last night at the Glenmore Hotel and Casino. He told about 250 racers, sponsors and volunteers his vision is to provide the highest possible level of entertainment value for fans. If everything goes togerther, nitro funny cars and dragsters will run on the drag strip again (June 18-19) and the jet cars will be here for three weekend shows.
The oval side is abbitious with the return of sprint cars to the high-banked track, starting June 3, an open-wheel showdown featuring IMCA modifieds, X-Treme Sprints and WilRoc Sprints July 29-30.
Also new on the agenda is a tractor pull, tentatively set for Aug. 12, which will feature blown-alcohol behemoths in a show that should pull fans in.
Can Awde save racing in Calgary? I hpoe so. It's going to be a lot of work but, if everybody pulls together, if the sponsors wake up to the value of racing and if the weather gods smile down, it might just be a winner.
The mood among the people at the meeting seemed to be one of optimism and enthusiasm. Maybe they realized just how close they came to losing their playground.
