Just to give a quick summary of the past rally, or as i refer to it: Hell.
1. After spending my years rally budget rebuilding my trany, a new clutch-net clutch and having it installed by others....I headed out to the rally excited to rip it up.
2. Upon arriving in Merritt it snowed 1 foot - no snow tires. The Recce was a disaster.... we were all doing stage notes for a burtal 9km hill climb on a foot of fresh snow and a few people were using their rally cars with very little success. They were being towed up by 4x4's and then everyone started slidding backwards and rolled off a bank on top of each other. Massive damage and 2 cars that copuld not start the race before it even began.
3. They closed those stages, but we still started the night rally friday. The volvo was perfect, rippin it up for 2 stages in the top ten ...everything was perfect...and then
4. On a transit to stage 3 i reached for the shifter and it was not there...in panic i found the shifter slumped over by Brad's knee....it became disconnected at linkage - stuck in forth.
5. Desperate and in pitch dark, since i thought i should save the weight by removing all non-essential wiring (ie: lights) we used a screw driver to shift into second with the hope of finishing the 3rd stage before service. Hell it was only a 6km uphill stage...no prob. 1km in - the new shinny clutch net clutch was smoking and the pedal was on the floor...All because of a $0.10 cotter pin that someone forgot to install correctly.
6. All group 5 cars were a write off - a mitzu blew its diff, and the other mitzu rolled off a cliff...
7. I just finished talking to D&K automotive who strictly work on european and asian imports, and have built dozens of rally cars (2 Polish fellows - 1 was a 20 year vet mechanic at southland fine cars). They are really excited to work on the Volvo, and get it ready for November 10th (kananaskis). There is hope in site....

Because of the massive destruction among the other teams as well - we still have a good chance to win our group and place top 10 overall...we hope.

But i guess thats rally racing...

h.
