It's rough, but a 123GT. I think it might be a good one for me to collect. But what's it worth?

Keep your paws off buddy. I saw it first! :x

It's a real 123GT, no doubt. It's quickly climbing out of my price range though so have at it. It looks to be relatively solid. The dash is in better shape than the one I pulled from the PYP car. It has the correct seats, dash, steering wheel, badging and tach. Looks pretty complete to me. It might be a solid start on a pretty unique car. My guess is you'll need to replace some floor panels but the rest looks good. I can't see any evidence of rust anywhere on the outside.

One has to wonder why it was towed there in the first place...my guess is a blown engine. B20 blocks aren't too tough to come by. I've got a couple. Both are running. There would've been a correct engine at PYP but I'll bet it's crushed now...

I say go for it. You'll be up against some collectors. One will likely be a guy named Lyle in Regina. If you can get it for anything under $2000, I'd say you did well. That car properly restored would be worth $10,000 or more.

You figure it's worth $2000...I wouldn't go that high for a car that is not a runner and missing some parts that will be devilish to get. Given it's location it may be sort of like mine in that it has never seen much salt, but the underside could tell an entirely different story (it could be like the one in the PYP). You'd get more than the current bidding price ($800+) for the tach, wheel and chrome seat sides alone. That dash is trash and will have to be replaced, can't see if it has the proper OD switch (now NLA). Still looks like a lot of project to me.

What did I miss? What parts are missing? The only thing I see is the actual horn button. The o/d switch is there...at least partially. They pop up on eBay occasionally. The tach looks a bit disassembled. I have two of them. It's missing the fog/driving lights and brackets but the brackets are available and there are better driving lights available now. Strangely enough, I can't see the lower knee pad. The dash is cracked but it's in better shape than the one I have. New ones (not reproductions, NOS) are available from IPD for $350 to do it right. The cluster is peeling, just like mine. I don't think that's a difficult fix, with a little patience.

Who knows what interesting stuff lurks in the trunk?

I still think a relatively complete and straight 123GT is worth a lot more than a basic 122 in the same condition. Hell, I bet the badges alone would fetch close to $100 on eBay...

Whooo-ee...you really want that o/d switch, don't you?

I used to have a friend out in Maple Creek, but its not even that far from me here really....2 1/2 hours. There are people in the Hat I know too that could go. Craig and I were saying it would be easy for us to go look at. If anyone wants to go, I'm there! That thing is sweet!

On Volvo Club of BC, a year ago or so, there was a 123 that sold for 14K. It was pretty prestine though. I don't know how long it was listed before it finally sold either.

They've only got 6 digits, including the tenth. 99,999.9 and then it's back to brand new.

My tone was all wrong on my previous post (I'm marking right now - so my critical glasses are on - sorry). I'm not saying it ain't worth $2000, I'm just saying there is a lot that is left in the eye of buyer on e-bay that is not said by the seller. There is just too much unknown for me to be on board for this one. If Dale or anyone would like Greg and I to make the road trip out, I'm game next week. Seriously - I'll take lots of pictures and if allowed, have a good look at the general condition of the car. If it is TRUELY solid, then Dale is 100% right - it's worth it. If it's a Flinstone's car, then I'd leave well enough alone. My relatively rust free 122s was purchased for $1700 and for all who've seen the underside of my car - it is pretty minty.

And little things like that OD switch (and I'm still in the lead right??) are getting harder to find. A year ago, when I was going to do a custom switch they could be found - now everyone is out of stock (they are about $120 when in stock).

A couple of more little things...there is no VIN, but it has the GT parts...the grills are from a '68 not a '67 and are pretty hammerd up, the shield GT badge beside the Canadian emblem on the trunk lid is wrong - shield badges go on the front fenders and were never included on the Canadian. The grill shell has 2 different primers showing and may have been replaced. The wires under the dash are cut, that's mouse shit on the seat, front bumper is missing an over-rider and looks like it was ridden hard and put away wet.

+1
There is a guy who is the 3rd owner of a genuine 123GT in B-ham. It has the fender badges, is the original dark blue, has the correct dash, correct vin. His GF has a car that is sort of in-between my stripper 242 and matt's old uglyduck...a mustard yellow '80 DL with an M45 and in pretty good shape.

I am inclined to think that is a GT parts goldmine, but looks kinda hammered, and there is a lot not being said. Keep an eye for sure, but I'd want to get some much more concrete information from the seller before committing to it. You can buy a decent 122 shell for about a grand here, but have to be a little patient for a 2-door.

I've been looking for 8 months off and on for a good original paint non-sunroof 79+ 242 without quarter panel damage. I'd rather have faded original paint and unrepaired damage so there are no surprises with these old cars. Strangely, 122s aren't usually as beat as the 140s and 240s are, but rarer. Granted, I haven't looked as carefully at the 120s as the 140s/240s are more my thing...especially the early 140.

Because "lady" cars are Jaguars and Rolls Royces. Volvos are not lady cars...
