I found the post about it and I was just reading them and it seems that they are a little pick with cars. I am just trying to see what I will all need done to get some Alberta plates on the car. Here in NS we have to get inspections every year so the car is in good shape. I think it has a little exhaust leak before the rear muffler (it has a stock exhaust on it) I have a 2.5" S/S exhaust here but it only is from the cat back and I don't know it they will pass that. I got it for free so I don't really mind leaving it behind. And the tabs on the rear calipers for the crash plates aren’t there. Do you know if most places are picky with those rear plates??
The only other thing I can find is I need a new tie-rod end for the pass side. I need that to get an alignment.

Oh and are they picky about little oil leaks? The motor has a little leak I am hoping to fix when I do the timing belt here in a week or so.

I do all the repairs to the car myself and I have a place and tools to do it here. So I hope to find everything before I leave so I won't have to fix things on the street with only half my tools. So if you guys can think of anything I should look at that would be helpful

I do have 90 day in Alberta to get this done so if they do jerk me around I will have a bit of time to fix some things.

the oil leak...depends on how big a leak it is I think...like, is it big enough that you're having to throw an extra quart in on a regular basis, or to make your exhaust that pretty whitish blue colour...cause that they may give you guff about.

No it more of a little drip that makes a spot where the car has been. It goes through a liter about ever 5K. I think I will just wash it down and hopeful I will see how ugly it looks then.

The form is quite comprehensive, but the shop you take it to has a lot of discretion. The process does not leave a lot of time from obtaining the inspection form to completing the inspection, if the car fails you can repair it but this all must happen withing 10 days if I remember correctly.

Items checked include:
EXTERIOR
body
frame rails
doors
windshield
side glass
back glass
wipers (arms and wipers)
washer(holds liquid and sprays)
mirrors(inside and out)
headlights(aim, function)
fog lights
B/U lights
licencse plate light
side markers
tail and brake lights

INTERIOR
seat belts
seats(are they there)
warning lights
guage/panel lighting
engine shutdown controls(i honestly don't know what the fuck that means, maybe if it shuts off with a key?)
speedo
odo
defrosters
heater
horn
driver sun visor
pedal wear
ALL suspension and brake componets
Exhaust
Fuel system - tanks, lines, cap

There is road test to, for noises, pulls, trans and diff. Alot of it is just visual if it looks good, its all good.

They can be picky about some things like leaks, but most of the time they won't fail the car for that unless they think they can get a work order out of you.

Athal (swedishmeatballrocket) sent me a copy of the OOP inspection for his own car as a checklist for the car I'm hoping to send through this month, maybe he can transpose the list here if he's got a bit of time.

OPI inspections require us to measure rotor thickness, pad thickness and tire tread depth as well. If its taken to a place like canadian tire they like to measure rotor diameter and tire sizes as well.

Make sure your windshield is in good shape, chips are fine but cracks will get you failed if there are a lot of them or they obstruct the drivers view.

Work that needs to be done once the original inspection is done has to be completed within 14 days or else you need to pay for another inspection ($120)

Perhaps if he went to the same place you got your inspection done at.

The list Ian provided is pretty comprehensive. He's had his mechanic's license for about 25 years now. I'd defer to his knowledge and wisdom, if it were me.

:D

i would have thought it being a provincial type thing it would be the same form up in cold lake as it would be here in calgary.

I'm not trying to undermine Ian's knowledge here at all dale, you know that. I have nothing but respect for him.

My car passed the test on the first time. You shouldn't have any trouble outside your mods.
