Ok, i totally forget how bad the mileage was on my 740 turbo and was wondering what everyone was getting? I dont care what you have just tell me if its turbo or whatever and what you average.

I need something to drive into town that gets decent mpg and my thoughts drifted back to a brick. btw, living in Okotoks isnt as bad as you would think, I love it! The commute clears my head.

Okay, Andy - that's just not fair. Jetta Diesel.

I've got a 740 turbo and it gets about 375 km on 52 litres in the city, probably closer to 550 km on the same amount on the highway. My 780 V6 gets slightly worse in the city (410 km on 61 litres last fill-up) and I don't know about the highway yet.

In the winter the 740 sucks even harder - gets about 300 km on the same amount of fuel as I get 375 in the summer, and the one winter trip I did with it I just about ran out between Medicine Hat and Regina.

We drove from Lethbridge to Burnaby (1100KM) on a single tank last summer (the famed Nelson trip) - that's a 55L tank. New Beetle TDI. We usually get 850 ish in the city. I know it's cheating, but if you're looking for a cheap to run commuter car you just can't beat a TDI.

The 940 gets a pretty consistent 550km to a tank when the weather's nice, and drops below 500 when its cold. That's on 65ish liters so roughly 12/100. doesn't get much better than 10/100 on the highway, mostly due to the lack of lock-up I think.

The 240 gets a little worse (more like Matt's) in the city, but more like 9/100 on the highway (under 110).

Keep the boost down, and try running a couple of tanks of 89, then 87, and see what works best. The lower the octane you can get away with, the cheaper. My 240 gets best mileage on 87, so long as I keep the boost under 8psi. ethanol blends are cleaner and higher octane but lower energy density so you will get worse mileage...

Is it in wicked nice shape Andy?

It looks like I wont be getting a 740 again, the LS400 gets about the same.

Matt, whats the 850 like? Any better?

My NA 850. Gets about 475Km on around 55 liters in the city.

On the highway, I can get about 700Km out of 55L. Note, that was on my last road trip to Calgary, May long 2 years ago.

Mileage SUCKS in the winter, 350K to a tank when its -30.

Roberta's car averages 19.5 USMPG doing short trip city driving, so 500 km on a 60 litre fill, much like Jordan's car. On the highway it's closer to 26-27 USMPG. That's all in the summer - wintertime mileage drops like all the others.

Probably won't get another 850, though...

Its in decent shape, mechanically awesome for sure. The body is really good with only a couple rust bits that have been attended to but need to be fixed properly.

383k, new alt and glow plugs, recent battery and was owned since new from the previous owner who had it up until about 2 months ago when I bought it. Has new snows up front and the rears are at 40-50% and new brakes up front too.

My 87 Jetta CIS gas jobby got great mileage too.. I can't remember how good, but it was at least 30-35mpg. Lack of power though on the top end, but good for starts/stops.

Best my 244 ever got (b230ft, LH2.2) was 550-600km a tank highway.

My 96 960 is decent on fuel for a volvo (to me), I've gotten over 30mpg with it... haven't had alot of seat time though.

that jetta is sick Andy haha crazy mileage

not sure what the 760 got, never really paid attention but the GT was getting 550-600km a tank, 60 litre tank

if anyone cares the duramax (chipped = wheeee! Dale wanna race?) gets like...

11-12 L/100km on the highway unloaded going 100km/h

city driving its 12-13.5 L/100km

towing, the worst I ever got was 15.2 L/100km

so best I got was 21.4 MPG...seems awful compared to you guys haha

ciao

The GT was NOT getting 550-600 km per tank in the CITY... That's got to be pure highway mileage.
