Need the advice of some of you goo roos.

I'm still debating between converting the 242 from k-jet to LH 2.2 or 2.4.

2.4 is better than 2.2 because:

a) the wiring harness is apparently much simpler and there seems to be a few cheap ones around.

b) it's self adapting

c) it's chippable \:D/

it's also worse because:

a) it requires a flywheel change, flywheels that aren't easy to find and expensive to ship because of weight.

Thats pretty much the only thing holding me back from going to 2.4. I've had my mind made up to go 2.2 for a while but now I've found a cheap flywheel and wiring harness on ebay.

My current question: if I can get it here at reasonable cost, can I use my 8.5" clutch disc and centreforce pressure plate with the 9" stepped flywheel, or do I have to get a whole new clutch? I've never seen the bigger flywheel in person....

You cannot use the 8.5" pressure plate with the 9" flywheel. You'll understand when you see one...

Ya I figured as much.

so LH 2.2:

-only 1988 and 1989 engine harnesses are rot proof, making them hard to find at the junkyard (see Eakin, told you I'd regret selling it to you one day! ).

- can use exisitng centreforce clutch

- not chippable, but can still probably reach the limit of my transmission.

LH 2.4:

- will need a flywheel, $75-100 (need to check locally too) AND clutch kit (~$200) maybe not as much holding capacity as centreforce, so could I take advantage of more power?

any other pro/cons you guys can think of? Can 2.4 use another source of signal other than the flywheel?

LH2.2 will require an '88-89 harness to be bulletproof, which is hard to find in the JY. LH2.4 will require EVERYTHING, which is much harder to find in the JY, and both systems will kerpow your tranny. The 2.4 will do it more elegantly.

Well, if you're going to go big....might as well do it elegantly?

I guess biting the bullet and buying a perfect harness from dave barton is mucho cheaper than sourcing all the 2.4 stuff. Now where's the $300 '90 740T M46 parts car to fall in my lap....
