Hey guys. I'm kinda in the market for a wagon for the wife and found this 850 turbo with only 93k (miles). Only prob is it's in Florida.

Anyways, what do you guys think? I have emailed for better pics and more info but do you guys think i'm nuts? I can't find a decent 850 here and I kinda want to keep it a car that I can work on.

oh here is the car:

and here who is selling it:
http://www.volvo123.com/

Thanks again!

A little more money but you'll save on air fair, import taxes and duty and costs involved getting it and you home from Florida...

Just going to suck when stuff breaks on the R....like viscous couplings and angle gears. But hey! take that stuff out and make it fwd!

Andy how bad are those R's? Or for that matter the first gen XC70's?

I would love a awd for winter since it is the family car but I'm kinda worried about breakdowns.

Seriously, with the older ones, we see Bevel gear issues, and center hanger bearing issues. Those are really the only drive line issues. The bearing you can't really do much about (pull the DS and make it 2wd), but the bevel gear, so long as the tires are always the same, with the same tread wear, then they don't have much issues. We have one guy with 500K km on his original, its not even leaking.

I would look at buying closer to home. At least this way you can have someone check it over. Take it into Valentines and get a pre purchase inspection done.

Seems like a bit much for a 1996 with 149K km when you convert from $US and get it up here. If the cost of running the R is daunting how about this car also on kijiji in Calgary, a 98 V70 fwd with only 126K km for $5500. Two years newer, less km, local, and the last year before the proprietary software.

We have a 2002 V70 AWD, the thought of doing a right angle gear box makes me queasy and has prompted the sell it now discussion on numerous occasions. It is however a very nice car in the winter with AWD and Arctic Alpins digging in.

Thanks guys.
Ya I think I will look closer to home.

I just want something pretty damn nice. I'm sick of driving ugly cars (aka rust).

If the xc's arnt too bad (I am a fanatic about good tires!) we might look at one of those, easier to load the kids and see in traffic due to the height!

Hey! Once you see it back on the road it will look like a classic hot rod (well, kinda).

btw, if you don't start building that 242 I might have to take it off your hands some year!!!

Well, Lets just say that once people see a 6K quote for their driveline stuff they are pretty quick to trade in.
