You give me FEVER!!!!!!

alright, enough musical tourettes, we are proposing a GATHERING in January to break out of the winter blahs!

Who: Anyone and EVERYONE! There's discussion of involving some VW and Saab guys as well...hence the interfaith gathering ;) But let's not give these heathens too much grief...we all know Volvos are the TRUE race of cars ;)

When: January 11, 1:00 p.m. until we all get sick of each other and decide to go home. That's a Sunday afternoon, giving the out of towners ability to come participate in the shenanagins, and still being decent time if anyone wants to bring any little ones. LITTLE ONES AND DOGS ARE ALLOWED!!! (provided your dog is decently socialized....)

Where: Where else? We're takin over Paul's place of business on 17th Ave.

What: Good times, wings, and just an all out chance to gather!

If you're interested, let us know! Further details are still being hashed out, but will be announced when we get a general head count!

So are we saying this is taking the place of the other gathering that has been in the works in this thread?

http://www.calgaryvolvoclub.com/forum/v ... 5770#15770

Nothing against Paul and his place but it's not exactly what I (and a lot of others, I suspect) had in mind for our Christmas/post-Christmas dealy. Paul's place is great for a quick BBQ on a Saturday afternoon with the boys or something, but I can't say I'd want to spend an evening there with my wife. Again, nothing against Paul. I totally appreciate that he's offered his place etc but let's be realistic. It's a place where cars get fixed. It's greasy just like all garages. There are no chairs, like all garages. If we want a turnout similar to what we had last year, we should likely consider having Paul's bbq thing late November and we can continue to organize the other deal after Christmas.

Again...nothing against anyone who has had anything to do with this function but we need to be cognitive of what we're working with...

I am also in, but as mentioned I would prefer a more formal Christmas gathering in early January. A second informal gathering at Paul's in late Nov or early Dec would also be great and I would attend, just not sure how many could turn out.

this has nothing to do with an x-mas party, just a get together with an
outside fire,some karaokee.
i believe the time schedule is to tight since most of the weekends are spoken for with company parties.(hence a Jan get together)
Kat what do you think?
Paul.

This is not ment to be or replace the non denominational festive seasonal gathering its just set to be a get together - what we were trying to set in the upcoming weekends but failed at due to conflicting schedules. We figured with a SET date and enough fair warning those who could make it great- those who couldnt We had better see at the festive gathering.

OK sounds good, and I agree that we need to set the "festive gathering", because 2 events so close together will not work in my mind.

January 11 does look like a great date, I will check with Friends Coffee shop to see if we can book for that date, then we will immediatly start to collect from anyone wanting to attend.

The outside fire and karaokee also sounds cool and maybe we could schedule this for February???? Just thinking out loud.

Well if this is the overall sentiment I have another idea.
Paul & Kat go ahead and arrange the Jan 11th event, I will be there, and you can call that the " CVC festive gathering".

Then for those that want a more formal gathering with spouses, Dale, Matt, Athal, Craig, myself (all with significant others) and anyone else who wants to join, we just make reservations at a restaurant for some good food and company in a more formal surrounding.

I agree that getting a group together can be very difficult, we just have to work together.

I'm down for getting together on the 11th, and a dinner whenever we can coordinate!

No disrespect Paul but understand Ian's (and my) feelings of frustration here. We (Ian and I) have a thread going on a post-Christmas evening which I posted a link to earlier in the thread. The general consensus was sometime in January would be a good time to do this. Ian took the time to speak with the owner of the coffee shop and get details on costs and took the time to relay that information to us. In terms of dates we were looking at a Saturday night; possibly the 10th or 17th of January. Keep in mind that thread has been alive now for what? A month? Now we go and throw in another event around the very same time and expect we'll get a reasonable turnout at both? It just isn't going to happen. We have a tough enough time getting a group of people together every couple of months so twice in a month (a week?) is a reality? I really don't think so. It takes an event like we had last January for our wives/significant others to consider coming. Unfortunately the setting for that event cannot be a mechanic's shop.

There is one thing those of us who have taken time to organize things have come to realize and that is that you will never, ever get a date on which you will get a positive response from everyone. You set a date and hope people will make an effort to organize their lives around that date. What you and Kat have done is great. Set a date and hope for the best. There is only one problem. You've chosen a date around which we're already trying to organize something and have been for a month now. Again, the frustration for Ian and I is hopefully understandable. As Ian has suggested; we can organize something amongst a smaller group of us and go somewhere for a nice dinner. That will exclude a lot of people on this board who might have otherwise planned to attend the gathering we were planning. Move forward with your plans. We'll organize our function amongst ourselves...
