...yeah. I walk out after having been away and letting my 83 244Ti police car sit and didn't notice until I jumped in it to go for a drive just tonight. I discover that the whole passenger rear quarter has a huge horrible dent in it that wasn't there before with the car sitting in my driveway. I have a ton of time into the car It is a not rusty nice original paint white 244Ti police car, and I just like it for whatever reason.. I don't really know what else to say. It is pushed into the trunk lid a bit and the dent is ~2" deep.

This brought back so many memories of the frustration with my white car and going through the work to help Tye (Incept on t-brix) build up his white 242TI only to have him call me the night it left the shop for the last time I saw it straight and tell me someone rear ended him as he was sitting stopped for a fire signal. I'm starting to feel like I might be cursed like Tye is with nice 240Ts, except more with white cars and this one being my first 240T.

Point is, no more white cars! Plan is to put the driveline new PS rack and other goodies the cop car has in a 245 that a guy has with a good body but a shot BW-35 (or is it 55...it is a nasty 3-speed even when it works right) trans and nasty old B21F with A/C and god knows what else.

That, or make a Mad Max 244ti. Haven't decided yet. It has the super skinny bumpers being an 83...an 81-82 242T makes a better Max in my mind. I can't really picture a 244 looking evil enough to be Mad Max, and it having been a decently nice car taints it a bit. I'd want a POS 81-82 242ti or a subaru gl-10 wagon I get for like $50 to make into Mad Max.

I'm super bummed right now. I just want a nice clean DD wagon or truck or max...something I don't have to babysit and straight forward to just drive around and not worry about. Not in the cards I guess.

Why not just fix the dent...it can't be that bad.

The whole rear quarter is pushed into the trunk lid. It doesn't line up right anymore. 244s are pretty worthless. It probably isn't worth fixing and is a little hard to get behind to push it back out because of how the layers come together on the rear quarter. I hate hack repairing things too for that matter. I don't want it to just be beaten into shape, have filler added and have non-original paint on one panel. I guess I'm spoiled having had a few 240s with nice original paint that were nice and straight. And I don't have a good body work expert friend to help fix it in exchange for making a car fast or some such.

I suppose I should stick with the car. It is a good car and has good mechanical parts. I just am so frustrated that I put so much effort into putting nice straight original paint front sheetmetal on it only to have some retard crinkle up one of two panels on it that suck to repair. Why can't people back into a door, front fender or trunk lid on a 240? All of which are pretty painless to fix, especially on a white 244 with no pin striping.

That sucks, James. Hit and runners are some of the worst people ever.

I guess that all makes sense then, and if another 244 is easy to find, then you're set. I was just thinking that for the time it would take to swap it all over you could knock it out. I'm a little biased as I enjoy that particular car struggle. One thing I would add is that if the crease is relatively straight forward (no buckling or folding of the panel), you may be surprized how it comes out. I try to use as little filler as possible and only ever to accomplish the final fairing of a panel...it isn't structural afterall.

I join with Matt in our evaluation of hit and runners...when I was in Ottawa over Christmas, I saw a guy knock off a side mirror then just keep going. We were stuck in traffic 2 cars behind and couldn't see the plate - funny thing is that no one even cared to stop (I wasn't driving and there was no where to pull over and leave a description).

Sorry to hear James
Always pisses me off that people don't have any respect for other people's property and then don't have the balls to fess up when something like this happens. The innocent always end up paying the price
