registered and drives...

so now, what should I be looking for when we go and look at it?

its a b18? dosesnt spec the transmission. but im guessing m40? m41? whats the auto?

hopefully its as good as it sounds, if luck holds out it will be at the next cruise!

Sounds very much like the one Paul had in his shop a while back. He will be able to give you a pretty thorough breakdown of what the car is. I looked it over and from what I recall it needed interior work as the original was sun-baked. The paint looked to be original and was in bad need of a refreshing. At that time it looked like it had been sitting baking in the sun for a few years. Lots of cobwebs under the hood. That sort of thing. Should be a B18 with twin SU carbs. Tranny is likely an M41. I don't think the 1800 got an M40 but I may be wrong. The price is a little on the high side for a car that runs well but doesn't look very good. The upside of that is cosmetic stuff is sometimes easier than mechanical stuff...

Is he interested in an ES? Unless your Dad likes doing bodywork, I'd pop for something as clean as possible.

This one was sitting in Lethbridge for a while, and has been for sale in the Hat for some time. The price keeps coming down, so if you offered him 8k, who knows?

That car was owned by the guy that I bought my 122 from...it's immaculate and is a Southern car (as rust free as they come). I've seen it close up (albeit a few years ago).

Yeah...I think that was the one in Paul's shop. He figures it's worth that much because he's spent that in all the mechanical work that's been done to it. Goes to show you it could be perfect mechanically but if it looks like crap it'll be tough to sell...

he's got over 8 grand in under body repairs, but the heavy
duty stuff is done and it runs great.
this is a stand up guy and would give you back your money if you were'nt happy.it's been sun baked but a very very decent car.

i see 1800's and there all show and no go.

In support of this opinion (and realize that I don't tend to do sensible things to cars) - the 1800 interior is relatively cheap to refurbish as all of the parts are available NEW from GCP (a Volvo-run vintage parts supplier). The parts that I've purchased for my 122 are perfect reproductions of the originals and the interior wouldn't cost much more than $2K to get just about everything you need.

Roj does a bang-up job of the gauges and weatherstriping by the way.

From the pictures a good cut polish and redo on the seats looks like it would be not a bad driver combined with the mechanical work already done?
