Andy and I tried to put an MBC in his new Volvo today, we just wanted to see how it worked and stuff, throw it at 10psi, etc.

none the less:

we have no clue...

here are pics that need explanation.

Image
See the current Kjet "increase boost at 3700 rpm to 8psi" majigger, we thought to use its current lil vacuum lines (and yes, we're stupid enough to try both ways, and no, it didn't work)
Image
This is a mystical Tee we found underneat the airbox ... ? wtf
Image
engine bay shot, notice the vacuum line running from mystical Tee to the post-intercooler pipe ... also "wtf"

Thanks, please teach us - oh wise users of MBC's

MBC r teh sux.

But if you've already got one, I'll help you hook it up.

In the above picture, the nozzle on the right, opposite the knob, goes to the intake manifold or intercooler pipe. The nozzle on the bottom goes to the wastegate.

Basically, if you put it where the "mystery tee" goes, and you ignore/forget/delete the line going up to the boost bleed solenoid, you'll be just fine.

A boost bleed uses a tee to bleed off some pressure from the wastegate. Air flow thru a thin little hose requires pressure differential, and the more your bleed tries to flow, the greater the difference of pressure between your intercooler pipe and your wastegate. Simple, elegant, and no moving parts to gum up or fail.

Heh, so if we were to pretty much just take the long line that goes from the mystery Tee to the intercooler post-intercooler charge pipe, and cut it, insert the MBC in between - we'd be golden?

I have just one question...why are you guys messing with the boost? I might be in the minority here but I happen to think the first mod isn't an MBC. Shouldn't you make sure the car is running correctly first? How is the frequency valve working? Does you boost enrichment come in correctly when it's supposed to? How is your base mixture doing? Go lean at 10psi or on a 14psi boost spike and you could be kissing an engine goodbye. I did and it wasn't anywhere near 10psi; it just happened to be running lean and I didn't hear it pinging up the Scott Lake Hill. Melted a piece of the piston to the cylinder wall. At very least you should have an a/f meter and a proper boost gauge in it.

If you've already looked after all that stuff, ignore my rant. Unlike LH-jet, K-jet cars aren't necessarily as simple as cranking up the boost...

It would be a shame to blow up an engine just because you were too eager to make it go faster...

Theres already a 'real' boost gauge in it :)

I suppose we _COULD_ hook up a volt meter to see how lean/rich its running :D

fan mawd 4 teh winz rofl-bbq-wtf-omg-noobz-rulerz-FTW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1111111111111111111111111111oneoneoneelevenone

:P :P

(sorry just wrote two exams today...need to let off some creative spirit)

but seriously...dont kill that car...it doesn't need to "go fast, go hard, and then *ping* go home" i agree with Dale in a sense because one i don't know jack shat about k-jet...but even with any car...take car of the other things first

andy and i thought up a list...stick to that IMO
